hey I was just wondering if I should solo IWD with HoW installed with either a elven fighter/thief or a ranger. Any tips or comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

Fighter/thief would give you better abilities, five stars in weapon prof., lockpick, detect traps, etc. Ranger gives you spells and will level up faster. But since you're soloing it won't take long for your F/T to level either. Comes down to how much of a challenge you want. Neither has significant magic ability which will make some battles extremely tough. Personally I'd go with the F/T just because I like multiclassing.

Only pure fighters get 5 proficiency points in weapons, multi class get 2 :) I would use a F/T and make it a halfling ;)

A FMT or a FMC stands a better chance.

And yeah; only a pure fighter can master weapons. Don't even bother with doing Heart of Fury with a single character, though. You will get seriously owned, every time, on the Isle. Even with a FMC.

Going through the game with a Dwarven Fighter/Cleric is very well... At the end you'll be one mad tanker...

Halfling Fighter/Thief, specialised in Axes(Battle Axe of Defender) and Long Bows(many good bows)...

Dwarf Fighter/Cleric, specialised in Axes and Hammers... :)

Why don't you take fighter/mage/thief? They are almost as good as Fighter/thieves and they can cast mage spells. Some mage spells are wonderful when soloing, like Burning hands, Mirror image, Stoneskin and Fireball.

If you want fighter/thief, take halfling. Halflings get one really nice helmet quite early ;)

@ Ejsmith, are fighter/mage/clerics good solo characters? Better than F/M/T? If so, I must definitely try it, after I have completed the game with F/M/T. :)

Of Balduran was it, wasn't it? It was for the short races - dwarves, gnomes, halflings...

What's the deal playing pure classed thief? You can use only short swords and short bows! As Fighter/Thief you can be efective fighter with long swords and long bows, and you can use as well daggers and short swords to backstabb... Overall pure thiefs are a bit lacking everywhere... Halflings and dwarves are the best Fighter/Thiefs in the game...
