I haven't seen the exact quote, but whatever it was Jackson said, he ended up apologizing too Obama. What's your take on this one, SPers? This one can't be blamed on the Republican machine!

Well, a quote would actually be useful...

Jesse Jackson carping about Obama not being "black" enough will only help him with the white voters. Think Rev. Wright in reverse. Jesse Jackson's attack is a pretty big plus for O. But you can look for the Republicans to suddenly believe (for the first time EVER) that what Jesse Jackson says actually matters.

I'm with CtR on this one. Many (primarily white) people think Jesse Jackson is too radical. His complaining about Obama only serves to show people that Obama is NOT like Jackson, which is a good thing.

I agree. This was a gift to Obama.

We had a Prime Minister who some called "The Teflon Man" because no matter what happened nothing ever stuck to him. Seems like the same with Obama. No matter what happens, he still comes out looking squeaky clean! There doesn't seem to be a lot of people who buy into what Jackson said (correct me if I'm wrong) and so Obama cruises along on his road to the White House.

Question for you all, and this isn't trolling because I seriously think it's a possibility and want to know some other perspectives: If by some miracle Obama loses this election, will a lot of people lay the blame on racism? I know that some will, but will it be a widespread opinion is what I want to know.

I think that the reason Obama would lose would largely hinge on the demographics of those who vote for or against him. Without those results, it's impossible to say.

I think you got your comparisons mixed up a bit. It is McCain who nothing seems to stick to. The media even calls him "Teflon John".

No kidding? I would say that right now neither of them is getting too much flack, though I've said before I don't think things are gonna get too vitriolic until mid September.

Totally agree there. Most candidates wait for the nationally televised debates in the fall to unveil their exact campaign strategies and best commercials in the weeks immediately preceeding the election. The Democratic National Convention is in the last week of August, and the Republican National Convention is in the first week of September. I doubt you'll see much before then.

Ironically, that can be an incredibly nasty backhand compliment. As the saying goes, if everyone knows you're a good thief you're not a good thief at all. If everyone knows how good you are at shifting the blame and avoiding responsibility, this makes you unable to actually disprove any accusation - since, you know, even if it were true they wouldn't be able to pin it on you anyway. I think something like this happened to Bill Clinton several years ago.
