They're all cheaper than normally, but one never knows what comes next so I can't just get them all. I'm sure someone has played most of them - recommendations please?

I've only ever heard of one of those. So that probably means that the others are not as good. What? Oh, right, you want me to tell you which one. I'll get around to it eventually.

So... how is life wherever you are?

Fine. My answer: Age of Wonders.

    Oil Tycoon? You're kidding, right?

Again, Age of Wonders is the only one I recognise, Although you can't go wrong with a pirate game. (I'm referring to Corsairs, only because of the name)

AoW is the only one worth considering, stay away from the rest.

If you don't already have 'em I recommend Deus Ex and Morrowind. Got Morrowind for $27 and Deux Ex: Game of the Year Edition for $18 off Amazon. TONS of replayability and I think the price is pretty good.

But i have heard about 5 of them:

Age Of Wonder - yes, it is nice, but i prefer Heroes of Might And Magic much more

Submarine Titans - I think i played a demo of this one -few years ago- ,at that time i thought it is nice, and i liked to have it, but now... If it is RTS I'm thinking about, try Total Annihilation, it shouldn't be much more expensive

Evil Islands - i didn't play i personally, but my friend did, a lot, he liked it (figures). He mentioned some interesting way of making magical weapons, i remember only that. Similar to Dungeon Siege or Hack (that Microsoft's Diablo like).

Moon Tycoon (and rest of tycoons) - I was big fan of Transport Tycoon as was my other friend who buys every game with tycoon in it's name... I can only say i tried it and i didn't like it. Could be interesting if you give it a chance but, there are much better games. If you like financial part, i can recommend Capitalism, also really old game, could be cheap if you can find it!

Corsairs - sounds familiar, is that the game where you drive the ship, arcade type, and shoot at enemies... Not much strategy in it? If it is, i can recommend it only as good arcade game, but since i don't like them too much, i finished just few levels.

Oh, and i almost forgot - Ethereal Lords - game sounds great when you describe it as hybrid between HoM&M and Magic: The Gathering, but i didn't like this game, it has the most anoying elements from Heroes: after some time your empire is too big to control and after you kill enemy hero (the strongest one) he escapes and returns afterwards with somewhat weaker army but he is still powerful to kill your smaller heroes... And you have to kill him every turn, or he runs and pillages your land, and you have to catch him, which is another problem, you don't move as in heroes, but you point your destination, and enemy points his and after both of you say end turn, you move simultaneously, and if your paths cross, battle, but you need luck to catch him - you must know in which direction will he run! And the battles are very slow, even with weaker enemies! Don't buy this one if you are not card game freak! (I don't want to insult)
