Questions regarding my solo assassin

he's lvl 19 actually, and soon i'll have to choose his high lvl abilities, which are the ones i should get him in priority ?

also, i'm about to leave spellhold, should i stop by the city of caverns or should i take the shortcut to the underdark ? i'm asking because there're lots of packed ennemies there and few places to hide....

last, should i develop traps skill and trap abilities for the toughest foes (abazigal etc....) ?

 

I would go to the City of Caverns just for the Cloak of Mirroring.

Yes, develop trap abilities (and be sure to grab the Mercykiller Ring). Traps are absolutely great and can really turn the tide of a battle. You can easily thin out a crowd by setting a few traps, triggering a battle and leading the foes to the traps. I would hope by now you have sufficient hide in shadows and move silently to wander around in the light completely unseen. You just need to be out of sight to go into shadows.

just another question: should i better seek help from drizzt or from the shadow thieves in order to kill bodhi ?

 

Now that it's in the ToB section....

HLA's come after you hit 3,000,000 experience points (24th level for a thief). THe best HLA's IMO are:

1. Use Any Item
2. Assassination
3. Set Spike Trap
4. Set Time Trap

Assassination may even be lower than the traps, but it's just too much fun to pass up early on. The time trap will also net you backstabs on every hit.

You should be able to get both to help you. I think Drizz't and company are more powerful, but the shadow thieves are quite good.

EDIT: i'm trying to beat the liches to get kangaxx's ring, i make my assassin wear the cloak of reflexion but unfortunately it doesn't protect against maze which makes the charater disappear instantly.
what should i do ?

 

Ring of the Ram. Hopefully you have two. Combine that with traps. One common tactic is to set traps on a platform next to the one Kangaxx will appear on, then use the Ring of the Ram to knock him over to the traps. It's like a cartoon: POW! snap snap snap snap snap. Dead (again) lich.

Once you get UAI you can use scrolls which will help a lot in the battle.

Dragons are especially susceptable to spike traps (well everything is).

 

i got trouble beating kangaxx in his second form (demi-liche), he starts panicking and flees and this gives him time to regenarate, so i would need to know which scroll i should purchase to use with UAI ? i need a spell powerfull enough to make him suffer serious damage

 

Spell Immunity: Abjuration and Improved Invisibility come to mind right off the bat to ensure you're not killed. As far as damaging spells, I think Melf's Minute Meteors will hit him. But you can always shift to the slayer and take him out as well.

 

I think Drizzt & co are more powerful than either the paladins or s. thieves when taking Bodhi.

 

how do i beat that blasted black dragon in the northwest of the elven city ? i dont want to give him all my gold

Scrolls: use them like you would a mage -- same spells apply: buff, lower resistance, breach, summons (swords are good). You have UAI, there are quite a few options available to you. The slayer can kill it (take down its resistances and give it other targets).

 

yeah but that means purchasing scrolls, and i can't get out of the city... i'll have to load an old save

i already soloed the game with a berserker and later with a monk, and it was piece of cake compared to soloing with a rogue, which is kind of an ordeal at times

just to know, have you managed to solo the entire game with a rogue ?

 

I got into the underdark with a gnome cleric/rogue before it just got too boring. Once I started getting HLA's the character became unstoppable. The cleric spells and HLA's really compliment the abilities of a rogue. Straight rogue is challenging -- my hats off to you for getting this far.

There are several on the boards who have -- usually with the bounty hunter. You're taking the tough route with an assassin.

Have you tried killing the dragon with the slayer?
