I just installed IWD2 on a laptop using the CDs and haven't patched it or modded it yet. I would eventually like the install to be identical to what's on my win98 computer. Is there any reason why simply copying everything from the C:bad:Program Files\Black Isle\Icewind Dale II folder on my win98 system to the same folder on the laptop wouldn't work now that it's been installed?

The idea is to quickly and easily install the offical patch, ease-of-use, and that "always get some xp on kill" mod as well as my saved games and characters. Will that work, or does the offical patch also modify the registry? I think I also included the skills mod, but that's just a simple 2da patch, so it should work.

Oh, the laptop uses XP Professional, not win98, which is the only reason I hesitate.

likely the registry is only used to keep track of what patch is installed. it does work.

I copied from 98 to xp with no problems.

It was a month ago so I don't 100% remember if I installed on the xp first, then copied files, or simply copied without installing. Pretty sure it was the latter, though.

Use the same path and you should be fine.

The Infinity games have no trouble just beeing copied over. If you copy to "same folder" (forexample c:bad:program files\black isle\icewind dale2) then it works fine. If you copy to another folder, you need to edit the file "icewind2.ini" and there will be at the start of the file (use notepad) that says something like "PATH=C:bad:PROGRAM FILES\BLACK ISLE\ICEWIND DALE2\", by changing this, you can put it in any directory you want.

Same goes for CD paths right underneeth it that's an issue (like using the seccond cdrom etc)
