I played shadows of amn and throne of bhall all the way through with my pure thief, korgan, edwin, viconia, jaheira/sarevok, and haerdalis. In throne of bhall my thief could take any one on his own except for sendai, (traps don't work well on so many enemies) has anyone else tried it?I think its awesome and theives rule.

Either you have the high level ability "use any item", or you talk about the "stone to flesh" scroll, who can be used by anyone.

[IMG] Of course pure thiefs rule! Halfling thiefs especially! How can there be any doubt ?!

Ender, I totally agree with you! Pure thiefs are excellent, noone needs more. Sure some of the kits have nice and powerful special abilities but none of them can match the plain thief in terms of versatility.

Well as an avid backstabber I must say that assassins rule supreme. Sure they dont get as many skill points but I think traps are alittle cheesy, its very hard to use them in a non cheesy way. When I have traps I have a hard time resisting using them so I dont put any points in traps, detecting illusion is neat but not a must have if you have a party. I am currently playing a multiclassed fighter/assassin in a multiplayer game and he rules. First a backstab and he is then able to hold his ground until backup arrives. Wonderful :D

my thief has bots of speed, and ring of free action. Go up to a group of guys, backstab the most powerful one, retreat, and let the traps finish them off. Anyone who survuves gets to deal with Korgan hehehe

Well it is supposed to just enhance your movement speed but without some third party fixes I think it makes the character to be permanently hasted. Very power boots. And good for us lazy people that hate watching the chars walking all over the screen.

The boots of speed do not have the effect the haste spell has, when equipped they only add 1/2 attack. A fighter-char is supposed to have 5/2 attacks at lvl-13. When equipping the boots of speed they add another half attack, increasing the attack to 3 attacks.
Haste would add another full attack, so with haste they would add up on 7/2 attacks. Big difference!

Two links that might be helpful, the first one has a link by Slappy to a bugfix that corrects number of attacks:
