[IMG] On my upcoming BG1-ToB game, i was wondering a lot of things. Including weapon profeciences. I'm not Solo-ing, so Two Handed Weapon Style for the extra attacks, and Single Weapon for the AC arent obvious choices anymore.
Please tell me what your favourite Weapons and Weapon Proficiencies are for the Following:
    - Fighters (Kensai) or Barbarians
    - Bards (blades)
    - Thieves (assassins or Swashbucklers)
    - Rangers (not archers)

    thanks!

    Fighter - B-swords are a must and Sword+Shield
Bards - Dual wielding Scimitars or flails (Dunno if it's allowed as I only play with H'D)
Thieves - Single Weapon dagger and Bow
Rangers - Any Missile weapon, long swords and Single-weapon style

[IMG] My two favourite weapons for SoA (and also for ToB as long as you start with SoA) are Flail of Ages and Celestial Fury. They are both fantastic weapons which you can get very early in the game. They work for all the classes you listed except for the Flail which isn't good for a thief.

I stay away from two handed weapons as much as possible because you lose the option of using either shield or weapon in the off hand.

Weapon proficiencies up to Specialized (**) or Mastery (***) are what I go for.
In the case of Two Weapon Style either two or three proficiencies are ok. The third proficiency doesn't do all that much - THAC0 improved by 2 with the off hand.

The thief would eventually use Carsomyr.

Once again I agree with the Earl. Those two weapons should be used. I ended up giving CF to the barbarian and the FOA to the cleric (primarily because of weapon restrictions). I start with shield, but will eventually, generally, dual wield.

[IMG] You might want to consider which NPC's you will have in your party when deciding which weapon(s) the protagonist is going to use.

For example if you take Valygar along it would be a good idea to give him the Celestial Fury.

[*]Fighters (Kensai): I actually favour l'swords and b'swords over katanas.
[*]Barbarians: I like them to use flails, the easthaven defender or the flail of the ages, preferrably single-handed, though spears and axes are IMO nice too.
[*]Bards: dunno, never played then but I think that scimitars might come in handy: the 1-bonus attack monk ninja-to (use any item!) from this bonus trader and belm maybe ...
[*]Thieves (assassins or Swashbucklers): Shortswords (Arabane, Kundane, Cutthroat) and the various daggers; plus darts and the usual bows. As for the swashbuckler I refer to the bard.
[*]Rangers (not archers): I like axes (I gave the axe of the unyielding to minsc and gave him the fortress shield, he was absolutely unstoppable then and took much less damage as when using a 2hd-sword) and spears for rangers.
