I have just taken my party through the maze, talked to the mage who was Sarevok's tutor, and rested, then saved over my quicksave and normal save slots in case there was a problem with one. Lo and behold, when I try to walk through the door to the undercity or whatever it is called, auto-saves, loads, then either freezes, or just plain quits the game instantly. Does anyone have any ideas on why this is happening or what I can do about it?

PS I made very minor use of Gatekeeper here to insert a few scrolls of raise dead, cuz my party got sliced up by the skeleton warriors. I hope that didn't corrupt the file.

PSS I have the patch installed.

PSSS I reinstalled the game too, to no effect.

    EDITED

I tried other things, and I am able to go to the thieves guild, talk to people, and there are no problems. I can get to the undercity and see the first screen, but the entire computer is either completely frozen, or it quits as though you alt-tabbed out, but it is gone too. PLEASE HELP!

not sure I can help you, but you should install the patch and try again. If this doesn't work, I assume you have learned the lesson about cheating... the hard way :D

[IMG] I don't think using Gatekeeper caused your problems. I've been using Gatekeeper, Dalekeeper, and Shadowkeeper and they've never caused me any grief. If they weren't dependable, they wouldn't be offered as a download from this site. I don't think the guys here would deliberately make buggy stuff available.

Try restarting from an earlier save game from before entering the Thieves Guild.

Before you reinstalled the game, did you delete your cache files and whatever else left over in your game folder when you uninstalled prior? I've heard that this can cause problems on reinstalls.

You might try reinstalling again and clear out your cache files beforehand.

All meaningful earlier saves are gone. The cache...hmm-i didn't try that. Thanks for advice.

    Havok-THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

I will now worship you as a god...well, maybe respect you as one demi-god to another. Anyway, you have saved me with your idea of clearing out the cache. I no longer need to start from the bandit camp! Thank you very much.
