Powerful enemies summoning

Discussion in 'BG2: Throne of Bhaal (Classic)' started by Sir Yerril of Morningmist, Jul 13, 2001.

  1. Have you notice that not just in Tob, but in nearly all Bio/BIS games, all the big nasties summon in little helpers. This drives me nuts!! Paladins are supposed to go straight for the hardest creature, but that's difficult when he's such a wuss, that he's hiding behind loads of little friends! Here are some examples:

Irenicus at the end of BG2
Belhifet at the end of IWD
    Demogorgon
Yxonemei in the middle of IWD

The list goes on, why can't they fight like real men (or women or demons or creatures or whatever), and fight you one-on-one like Bhaal or Firkraag.

What would have been cool would be at the end of BG2, a one on one fight between you and Irenicus, only he would be the same class as you. You could have a big brawl if your a fighter, barbarian, monk, paladin or ranger, a spell-out if your a mage, sorc or cleric, and a big maze where you go around sneaking up on each other if your a thief or a bard.

Anyway that's just my £2 (Haha! British!)

    biggest example of this:

sendai and her damn slaves. I probably killed 100+ slaves in that dungeon.

I totally agree with what you are saying -- the battles where it is just me, a two-handed sword grandmaster kensai half-elf, and a dragon is much much more satisfying.

Well would you have prefered to just go in and kill Sendai? What kind of level would that be? The game would be over really soon.

I guess my point is that wouldn't it have been more fun if sendai was just plain better? i.e. she was tougher and took more to defeat? I think one powerful opponent is more fun that 100 weak ones

I agree wholeheartedly. I enjoyed my battles with the dragons much more than the ones with little mages who have big goons. Or huge Demogorgons with big goons. (If you really believe in this, and are suicidal, try Time Stop. It freezes everything but the Demogorgon, which makes it 1 on 1, your mage and the demon).

Thing is if you just fight one big baddy it would be a 6 on 1 and wouldn't be very fun. The only single enemy i thought was really fun to fight was balthazar. I thought it was better fighting my way through all sendai's slaves than facing demogorgon.

How is this any different than the player summoning support?
