[IMG] I recently downloaded some portraits off the net from some site. I believe they were orignally intended for NWN but it said you could convert them for IDW2.

    FIRST of all,

the files were in TGA form, whatever the hell that is, and after experimenting with like every program possible I managed to get them open in photoshop. Only problem is, that takes AGES to load every picture, and you can't scroll through them like the normal bmp pictures (most rather portraits) that I have. I tried saving it as a bmp file but windows just says 'no preview' so what do I do!

Also, once I eventually get them to work in the normal way, which hopefully i will (GASP), HOW can I change them into IWD2 format? Obviously all I have to do is change the size, but HOW can you change the size of the picture perfectly???

I think I heard about a program, most probably photoshop but I'm an idiot :p , where you can just load your picture and then select a specific size for example 210 x 330 (for IWDII portraits), at which time a small box referring to the size you just selected, will appear and then you can cut out whatever part of the picture you want and then save it to another file and THEN use it for IWDII! CAN I DO THAT?!?!?!

PLEASE tell me there's someone out there that can help me ...

Your best bet for editing .tga files is IrfanView. This will let you convert a .tga image to .bmp format. Then you can use any program to fiddle about with them as you want; I generally fire up Paint at this point and remove the blank space at the base before just "stretching" the image to the correct proportions. To get the proportions right, I use Window's Calculator to work out the %ages. This usually gets me to within 1-2 pixels, and which I can crop off without noticing.

Paint Shop Pro X handles tga files.

They moved from JASC to Corel. The Corel version I know works - not sure about the older JASC version.

I usually makes my portrait by converting the fileformat in ACDSee, and work on them in Photoshop. Then using ACDSee again to convert them to bitmaps. Maybe a somewhat hard way to do it.

As I usually works from scans, from books, I can't post them, due to copyrigth issues.

IWD2 portraits are square, whereas portraits in all the other games are rectangles. You can't just resize rectangles to squares without squishing the portraits and making them look odd. You have to crop a square from the rectangle to make a good IWD2 portrait.

Yep that's right Tal! But what program do you recommend for that? I was thinking photoshop because that's probably the most advanced thing I have ...

Anything better than Paint will do. Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, etc.
