When I take an image (JPG format), resize it to 110x170 and save it in a 24-bit bmp, the image can't "be seen" by the game. I get nothing, exept for an image called "thumbs", with a "chalk-outline" type of portrait. What am I doing wrong? Also worth mentioning, I did this in an empty "portraits" folder, so it was not caused by having too many portraits. I really need help here.

Also, I am wondering if there is any way of transferring the characters of one save to another, but still have done the same quests and be in the same place as the party you replaced? Or do I have to start all over again.

Is the portrait correctly named? It has to adhere to certain naming conventions as outlined in the readme.

As for character swapping - you can manually copy a savegame folder from your /save directory into your /mpsave directory and load the game as a multiplayer game. With this you can swap in new player-made characters and remove them (but Export them first if you want to preserve them). Once changes are made, and you want to revert the game to singleplayer (get rid of that console line at the bottom, etc) save your multiplayer game, exit, and manually move the save folder from /mpsave back into /save and reload the game as a singleplayer game. This works fine, but can seem odd if, for example, your thief character has the thief stronghold and you replace him with a paladin. Your paladin is now happily in charge of the thief stronghold. :o

Thanks! The second tip really helped (or will help, as I have yet to try it).

About the portraits though, could someone state the rules please? I know they have to end with L or S (is there a differens between CAPS and not when it comes to this?)

Thumbs.db is a system file that stores thumbnails of the picture files in the same folder, for use when you open the folder with My Computer. Just ignore it.

TBH, I'm not sure the L & S thing is even necessary (since you get both L & S in both lists), but I always do it just to be safe, plus it's a nice standardized way to tell you which is which. The other naming convention is that the file name must be eight characters or less, including the L or S.

Ahh, managed to fix the portraits now, thanks for all the help. Maybe I should submit them to SP? I don't think any of the ones I made (or rather stole and then resized) is a part of any portrait pack on this site.
