if you multiclass in a level of another spellcasting class, you override all drawbacks of specialization. if this is cool for your build, i suggest transmuter.

 

We all know it's a conjurer! In this game and every other game. Always has been and always will be! Is that a good enough reason

 

I take diviner and lose only Conjuration in exchange for one more slot on each level that I can spend on anything I like. It was trickier in ToEE because following the IWD2 example, I ended up with a diviner that had to spend half her slots on Divination. That hurt.

 

Necromancy should be the best specialist class, followed by Abjuration. Both however loose the Illusion spells, due to which I hope this guy never goes into melee.
Conjuration and Enchantment both loose Evocation so that is out of the question.
The others miss out on way too many spells.

I guess Necromancy (opposed by Illusion, Enchantment) is the best specialist class.

 

First of all, the best answers are, "Sorcerer" and "unlocked specialist". So I didn't vote. Secondly, going without Illusion spells is suicidially insane. Thirdly, if you forced me to play a single-class specialist, I'd choose Diviner; you mainly miss out on Gate, Summon Monster 8, and the armors.

 

Enchanter is coolest. I don't know what the drawback was though...
