[IMG] OK, OK. I admit - I'm addicted to polls. Here's another one, and it's on the different kits in the game.

For arguments sake, I considered all of the different schools of magic to be their own kit. I put sorcerers with mages. I placed barbarians and monks with fighters.

Once again, as in all polls I do, I just ask you to select your favorite, not necessarily the most powerful. We'll assume that you're going to play a straight class throughout the game, so do not select based on dual classing possibilities.

As an extra twist, I also ask what race you would chose with that class (except for paladins, for obvious reasons). Yes, I know 3rd edition changes a lot of this stuff, but still, this is the way BGII was made to work...

    Hmm...
I chose Berserker over kensai because a) the kensai is just too powerful and b) I'm playing a Berserker right now (dualed to cleric). Oh, and dwarf (great saving throws) for a single class Berserker.

Inquisitor is IMO the most useful paladin kit - but they are all very powerful. I just find that the True Sight ability is priceless - it's fast to cast and your spell casters can use the slots for other spells.

Elf Archer for Ranger kit, but the Stalker is nice too...

And as a thief I'd go for an Assassin - given time (and the right items) he can still serve as a utility thief and 7x backstab + poison weapon is great. Race: elf, because a) they get 19 DEX, b) they get +1 to hit with long swords and long bows - the thief's greatest set back is his poor THAC0 so every point matters and c) they look way cooler than the halfling...

Priest of Helm for the True Sight - and Seeking Sword is ok too, human because they look cooler in full plate.

The Avenger kit is probably the best (and most fun) druid kit. They are a bit more offensive in the early levels than a vanilla druid and the -2 STR and CON really doesn't matter. Human.

I took a human Conjurer as a spell caster - but the most powerful is without a doubt Sorceror (I'd go with an elf there)... too powerful actually to be really fun.

Oh, and Skald because he's the most bard like kit - too bad that the HLA Improved Bard Song makes him pretty weak compared to the other kits... (his strenght is his very cool song - now the other kits get a cool song for free).

i went with the barbarian because they are my fav tanks. dwarf

i went cavalier for the paladin because i like the bonuses they get against dragons and demons.

    archers rule enough said. elf

assassin because of theyre poison weapon. halfling because, IIRC they get more starting skills as theives.

Priest of Talos because they charm undead instead of destroying them, and their lightning shield makes you invulnerable to lightning and(i think) fire.

human avenger because i like the mage spells

i went with an invoker even though sorcerer is stronger, mainly because they are supposed to be masters of manipulating energy, which to me means they're better offensivley , and i much prefer offense to defense.

i went with the skald for the same reason as victor

I have to say, I usually multi-class, in which case I usually go for either a mage-cleric, or a fighter-thief, but if I'm playing a single classed character, my absolute favorite is an evil beserker dwarf.

About the rangers. I don't see the reason to not choose Stalker. The armor restriction is the only penalty. And you want to be stelthy right? So I don't get why anybody's choosing the vanilla ranger. If you're not RP'ing, then it's a whole different case.

For the fighter I picked vanilla. I dont like the kits as much for the restrictions they impose. At low levels the kensai is best in one on one, but eventually a vanilla fighter overcomes him.

For paladin, the cavalier. The inquisitor is better, but if we can have Keldorn, then its cavalier all the way. I actually have a cavalier right now and the combination of her and Keldorn is great! I will have Keldorn use Carsomyr, and my cavalier using Purifier.

For thieves, its a harder decision. The assasin is great for backstab, but the creatures you want to backstab the most are immune to it or auto detect invisibilty. The bounty hunter is great for traps, especially against large creatures. At high level, they maze the enemy. So you can maze them, prepare yourself, and when they come back you are revved up and kill them more easily. The swashbuckler in my opinion is better than a barbarian in some cases, because their AC gets so good and they can go to two in their weapons and still get max thief skills.

As the ranger, it was archer all the way. It was the first, and so far only, game i have beaten SoA and ToB with, and his name was Duryn, like my name here. But, with mid to high levels the beast master is a good pick, but harder to start out with because of the restrictions. The stalker is nice too but valygar takes that position and you cant help but be a ranger of good alignment.

I picked sorceror over the others because sorcerors are just cool.

Fighter: Elven Kensai. These guys just kick ass. Let him dualwield long swords and he's a real killer. And moreover, kensai's are cool. They're the swordmasters of forgotten realms, I always have to think a bit about samurais when I think of them. The elf is for the cool look (I edited a robe in IEEP that does nothing, it only looks like a robe) and of course for the extra skill with long swords.
Someone said a vanilla fighter would at the high levels eventually be better than the kensai. I think not. The difference in AC will by far not be as great as the difference in THAC0. The kensai will have more attacks (I think) and do more damage. They'll probably hit eachother 98% of the time (the kensai has a THAC0 of less than -20 and a crappy armor class, so the fighter can hit him too). The damage bonus will do the trick for the kensai. And that's even wihout the kai ability.

As a paladin, I would choose the Inquisitor, although they all rock. I love the true sight and dispel magic abilities, saves valueble (sp?) slots for the sorcerer.
The Cavalier is great too, because of the immunities and although the Undead Hunter is nice, I would probably don't take him. I usually have a cleric with crom faeyr and mace of disruption/runehammer that can take care of most undead.

The ranger would be an elven archer. I just love this girl (I'm playing one for the first time now). That and the fact that archers are cool. Remember Legolas from lotr? Too bad they're a bit overpowered in BG2.
Stalkers are pretty cool too, but the only useful mage spell he gets is haste and I barely ever use stealth. Besides, if I wanted to, I'd use a thief.
Beast Masters just suck. I see no real advantage and a pretty big disadvantage.
Vanilla rangers are pretty cool too (Minsc), they are almost as strong as the archer, but they don't have that cool roleplaying feeling (for me that is).

I'd choose a cleric of lathander, because I always play good.
He should be human, because I can't really picture any other race being a priest.

I think the shapeshifter is by fdar the coolest druid -> Werewolves! I'd only pick them with the rebalancing mod though. I'd choose half-elf, because I feel elves have a natural bond with nature.

As a mage I'd pick an elven sorcerer. The elf is for the dex bonus and the sorcerer is just plain cool. Do you know the power these guys can wield?

As a half-elven bard, I'd probably choose blade, because he's more offensive. Don't like the class though.

A thief would be a half-orc swasbuckler. As I said, I don't tend to backstab (if I would, I'd pick an elf assassin). Swasbucklers lose no thieving points and are stronger than normal thieves.

I'm surprised so many people chose human for the fighter class. I expected to see an overwhelming number of half-orcs and dwarves. The only thing I can think of is the fact that there are several votes for monks, which of course, can't be half-orcs or dwarves.

The most of that humans are the dual classing powerplayers (nobody can tell me that he duals a lvl 9/13 fighter for rpg reasons).

You may be right diebysteel, but my question would be why would you dual-class instead of multi-class if you were a power gamer? Well, that opens a whole bag of worms for the arguement between the two, so I won't go into detail. Still, the point of all this is while I agree a dual-classed character is more versatile and probably more powerful than a single-class character, I still think that a multi-classed character is more powerful than a dual-classed.

I think it's your lack of choices.

Multi-class has to be done right at the start of the game, so it is not consider with the vanilla class together(It means in your poll, a vanilla class is a pure vanilla class. But for dual-class, it can be done sometimes later).

Hope you got my meaning. :)

I think that other people might have thought:
If I choose a human fighter, I could dualclass him.

The reason they probably didn't thought of multiclass as much, may be because of the fact that there are no multiclasses listed.

A multiclass must be picked at the beginning, and in this poll, that can't be. A dualclass however, can start out as a fighter (like in the poll) and then dual, which doesn't show in the poll.

    @ Menion

Excellent point. There are no multi-classed characters listed in the poll, and that was done deliberately, as I was comparing different kits, and you can't choose kits when you multi-class. So that's why I didn't include them. However, given the fact that multi-classing ISN'T an option, many people say they would choose a kit to start off, and then dual-class later, meaning they would have to choose human. So I think you're right.
