[IMG] Many times has it been said in defense of NWN that it's a tool for creating modules and playing multiplayer and that the single player campaign is just there to showcase this.

Well, what is the reality? Answer the poll and let's try to shed a little light on this.

The answer of course is completed the game, once, and put it away. As I've only got modem dial in, I'm not sure if I'll bother with the available downloadable modules.

Might get the expansion, but I want to see it rated first.

Played it once, finished it (with cheating by downloading the walkthru because I got bored long before the end) and haven't touched it since. I might have another go at it one day but I kind of doubt it.

I enjoy the game sofar. And I think I will probably play it again with different characters.

I sometimes create some items I would like for my character, but I never tried to use them in the game. Made them just for fun, I guess.

Tried some multiplayer games on the net. People don't seem to be that 'Party Friendly' as they promise. Whacked a Goblin once as a lvl 1 player and some nasty lvl 12 char killed be because it was 'her goblin' and that I should find my own victems. Lost my interest that way in multiplayer games. I rather go online with some friends I know...

I've played through the main game once and have also completed several free modules. This wasn't as good as BG, BG2, PsT but was more fun than IWD and MW. I would like to replay the campaign as a magic user and there are a few modules I liek the look of.

I've made a module and enjoyed mucking around with the editor. I found the editor pretty easy to use compared to most game editors. If you want to write a full blown adventure with all the dialogue then it is not easy but you can't expect it to be. If you just want to write a small encounter it is very easy. (OK it's not as easy as something like Age of Kings but compare it to editors for things like Unreal engined games). What I'd like to do (when I get some time) is use it like it was intended, that is, to run a pen and paper type campaign with some mates. In that way, you just use the editor to knock up the main locations and main characters. You then supply any necessary dialogue as the DM when and if your players decide to talk to people.

As to multi-player play. I still have mixed views. I haven't been able to get my normal online mates to play, which would be my preferred form. I haven't been able to get into ALFA which has been frustrating. I have dropped into a few games and found it a very hit and miss (mainly miss) affair.

More positively, I have tried some of the permanent worlds and these have been far more enjoyable. I've played in these on my own and just had fun roleplaying and exploring. I've also joined up with a few people to form a party. Unfortunately I wasn't feeling in my most sociable mode when playing so haven't kept this up. I did also play with a friend and had some fun.

The problems I've encountered are that many random games get filled with idiots. To get anywhere in a permanent world takes a lot of time and commitment and I haven't the time at the moment (too much extra late night work and other project). Also, I did get bad lag in some games on a modem - though this does not seem to be a problem in games with just a normal group (like you would have with your mates).

Almost forgot, one of the biggest surprises for me was that my sister seems to really enjot playing the game. She has been to visit a few times and has suggested we play NWN. She has very little gaming experience and even less RP knowledge only having briefly layed some D6 Starwars sessions. Yet she has got the hang of NWN very quickly and enjoys playing the less combat heavy modules.

So in summary, I enjoyed the game, definately got my money's worth and hope to play online some more. Ideally I'll get my normal RP mates to play in DM mode at some point. It isn't a priority for me now though as I'm trying to finish off several Operation Flashpoint missions :)

PS here's my NWN module if anyone is interested but you can get much better at the NWN Vault.

I played through the official campaign and even though it was nothing special at all I did finish and it tells something about it.

I am still disapointed by the game though, I was in a consistent world with devoted DM's and good role players and still I did not enjoy it. The world that had been created was amazing. Still something was lacking, a fundamental flaw in NWN. It lacks gameplay, it just isnt fun to play. No matter how good people you play with or how much time and effort that has gone into the modules and worlds. The idea is great but it is far from perfected.

Played through the official campaign, hated it, and shelved it for months. At the time the only player made content was crap, porno adventures, and "jiggly armor" I was pretty disgusted by the whole outcome.

Then after playing a horrible failure of an mmorpg for a few months, I gave NWN another shot, and there's now some incredibly good player made content. With that and a dedicated online partner (the one-woman-jihad Damona) I've been pretty glued to it.

I've made some custom portraits for it since then, and am working on my first mod for it (there was no option for "working on a mod now" so I didn't vote...).

I played a mod called, "Bone Kenning, the Art of Thanaturge" that was incredible. I hadn't had fun like that in a computer game since Planescape: Torment.

    I didn't finish the SP-Campaign.

But I too discovered after a while, that there are some really good modules downloadable. I played "the sunless citadel", "Forge of Fury" and "Trial of Spirit".

The problem is, (random number) 90% of the Modules aren't worth it, while some gifted people use their chance to make a really good storyline. And the beat the SP-campaing by far. Just finding the gems, that's not so easy.

I never did finish the single player campaign, and I've played around with the toolset a bit. But, in all honesty, the true strength of NWN is in multiplayer. I'm a devout member of ALFA, and it knocks everything else completely out of the water!

BTW - ALFA has recently re-opened it's applications to bring in another 500 members :) So, if you're interested you might want to take a look.

I never could finish the boxed up single player campaign. I also tried a downloaded module or two, but in honesty, the single player NWN experience I find extremely poor. I just don't like the concept of henchmen I don't suppose. It's one of the things that kept me from finishing Arcanum, and their henchmen comparatively are much better than NWN.

I to was ready to give up completely on the game until I braved the multiplayer waters. Since October, I've played NWN exclusively on multiplayer, even though I have a 56k modem (Note: almost all lag is attributeable to the module and it's host server. Your connection speed has little to do with slowdown.) While I have had some frustrating experiences on persistant worlds to be sure, those have come with some great fun. I've had to put up with people I don't like and playing styles that don't mesh well with my own. But I've also met some great players and been on some fun adventures. On Soulforge, I'm high cheiftan of my own barbarian tribe and I'm happy to say one of the most respected guilds in that PW :) I've also had the oppertunity to do world building there, and it's great to see people enjoying areas you've built. So all in all, I'm quite happy with NWN. It certainly wasn't the best RPG I've ever played, but it has been one of the best gaming experiences I've had.
