Hey guys, good to be back, I love this game. I want to start up again, but I'm having trouble trying to go it alone. It's just rather dullish(SP). So I got a few questions, what's a good way to go play through and not be bored? I'm a very melee-happy happy guy. The hack 'n' slash is sexy to me, but I cannot play another berserker, or barbarian, or repeat of the standard overpowered hack'n'slash as 'usual'. (The thieving route is also rather boring, sneaking is for the fearful).

And also, where is a good place to find one or two, or more poeple to play with occasionally, from where I'm currently active? (I want to start a multi-game with an open connection, should be pick-upable from gamespy). I know you have the multiplayer online section here, but most posts are over a month old, and get one response only after a month o rmore :p .

I've also added a poll to see everyones stance on physical vs magical.

Pick a Normal Fighter. Use only normal equipment. Make all the Fighter's stats below 10. Change difficulty to far right. Then laugh at how much he dies because of his crap-iness.

Or you could just try a Fighter/Mage/Cleric they're always fun because you can melee, heal, and cast deadly spells of deadly death.

You can change difficulty to far left and laugh your butt off at how easy things get.

For that second question I don't know.

There's nothing better for me than beating the crap outta the baddies. Magic has its place, but I can't get into a magic-user. There has to be a bit of fighter in the make up.

Physical here too. There are so many battles in CRPGs that I'm always wondering, "Should I use a spell now, or will I need it later?" Of course, this results in a lot of unused spells, and that's just annoying.

In PnP, though, I'm a born magic-user. I know when to use spells, when to throw daggers (or whatever), when to talk, and when to run. I'm usually not the leader of the group, but when my comrades-in-arms see me quit the field, they run *fast*.

Haha. I tend to be melee in PnP as well. My favorite so far is a fighter/barb(8fighter/2barb), axe'n'board (shield bashing), which I wish I could do in BG2(shield expert).

But yes, physical is just, the only real way to feel you've accomplished soemthing, if you understand what I'm trying to say. You're taxing your own physical structure.

Why don't you get some hard mods, like Tactics and Improved Battles? It will make your game newer, harder, and more fun! Try it!

Tactics was too hard for me, when I fought level 18 MOBS in the starting dungeon.

^I do not think they are level 18, (except Ilych and his gang) but it is the fun of hard mods! I did it, and you can too! Why do you flinch?

That is, except you are soloing, If you do solo, you are right; they are impossible to beat!

Physical, hands down. The only spellcasters I play are Rangers and Bards, and that's strictly melee and buffs I use then.

a Sorcerer is a fun but quite easy solo.

iv'e had a lot of fun with soloing the followeing class/kits: berzerker, sorcerer, monk, archer, F/T Multi and dual, SKed Kensai/thief(playing now and it rocks), assasin, shapeshifter, and a fighter druid.

Human Kensai[9]/Mage. Actually does very well as a melee unit considering he can lay the smack down while protected by Mirror Image and Stoneskin.

Cavalier is a challenge too as this guy also necessarily fights at the front.

I don't wanna waste my time with any casting on my character. Buffs are boring and time consuming haha.

Likewise, I don't have fun fighting impossible battles, challenging sure, impossible no!

Good suggestions too tho thx, and fyi, playing as overpowered classes isn't fun either, (kensai/mage).
    I'm too simple to Multi-Class anyways :p

I like to play a fighter/mage multiclass and do both. Stoneskin! Fire Shield! Two-handed sword to head! Chaos! Cloudkill! Cloudkill! Cloudkill!

As for your multiplayer question, I'd say this is the best place to find someone to play BG2 online with, though few do. There is barely anyone on Gamespy playing BG2, so getting a group together first is your best shot. Make sure you all have your games patched, and that everyone has either soa and tob, or only soa (there is a way around that though).

Yea, it's hard to find a group, and I've never found a better community for this game, but it seems to me that no one likes to play multi. It's hard to keep a group up, and no one even reads the forums where you're supposed to look for an online group :p
