POLL: spell-caster poll

Different people have different opinion for spell-caster. I for one prefer a generalist mage, but I believe that most people will prefer sorcerer(I am in Sorcerer's place anyway. ) So I created these poll to find out how many people have the same thinking with me. The choices are generalist mage, specialist mage, wild mage or sorcerer.

Well, I usually go with multi class (mage/thief), but if I have to choose one from that you listed here it's definitely sorcerer.

 

Sorcerers are the most powerul IMHO, but wild mages are far more entertaining.

 

I like generalist mages and multiclassed mages. Mainly because they are plenty powerfull(the game isn't that hard people) and you can just do more stuff with them. I like to be able to cast whatever I want.

 

i prefer the kensai\mage, but since its not listed there i gotta go with sorceror.

 

Sorcerers are ok, I guess, but I don't like being limited in my spell selection.

I find myself playing more fighter/mages than anything but I selected generalist for the purpose of the poll.

 

Of spellcasters i like to use bards and divine casters.


Of arcane casters (with the exception of bard) i like wild mage. He's just damn fun and as fade said before, the game isnt that hard not to use what i like.

 

I did thought of putting bard, as many people said bard can get to higher Lv and thus benefit more on spells that require Lv. But later remember someone said before that all spells actually have a cap, so bard are still not a better spell-caster(just in case, I know bard can do this or do that, but I am only talking about spells here. Nothing more). As for dual or multi-classed mage, I didn't include them as I only want to know the result for "pure" spell-caster.
Btw, I am curious about something. For those who said that you prefer a dual or multi-classed mage, do you not use a "pure" spell-caster in your party at all?
Last but not least, there is another similar poll, but with more options, posted by Death Whisper. so for those who want to have more choices, the remade one will be the one for you.

Wild mages are more fun in p&p than in BG2. For the game I don't have a clear preference, but I think sorcerors have my preference at the moment. Tomorrow I might have a great idea about what to play next and that could well be a specialist mage or a fighter or a bard or a cleric or a....

 

I chose the generic mage. I prefer mages over sorcerers simply for the XP you get for scribing all of the scrolls. And if I play a mage, I want access to every mage spell that exists. IMO, a couple of extra spells per level doesn't compensate for the loss of an entire school of magic. Although, I must admit that I have very little use for the Enchantment/Charm spells considering there are none available for levels 6 and up.

 

who wants to get blasted with 3 horrid wilting spells simuntainisly? Sorcerer enyone?

 

After so long, I expected more people to choose sorcerer than mage. Looks like I was wrong....

 

I find that a specialist mage always beats a generalist. Extra-spells per level, and there'll always be one school that you never use. In my case that's divination. I've a bard for identify, and that's about all I need. Thus my spell-caster can concentrate on other things.

Sorcerer is a close second choice, though. However, I find the limit in spells just a bit too restrictive.
