It's still undecided wether it does damage on a longterm effect, since most people who game are not old at all. In 20 years, it will be totally different.

And why should gaming be harmful? It's not like it encourages to kill? hehe.

    Good poll though.

EDIT: Looks like opinions are well rounded. lol.

Okay, is this meant physicaly or mentaly?
Physicaly it most surely is. Or not(if someone else thinks otherwise). But i think this's been answered already in the first question. With a better question.
So i'll take it mentaly. This depends greatly on the type of games you're playing. Playing each genre a bit develops certain mind skills/capabilities. Playing only shooting games for years makes you a retard. Even playing more "intelligent" games such as RPGs (meaning true RPing not Diable style) for long years doesnt give you any new experiences, what mental growth is all about i think.
    So, long-term no. Short-term yes.

Hehehe, i've managed to complicate things, eh? :p

It can have detrimental effects depending on the type of person you are.

If you get too into your gaming, then yes, it can ruin your social life and even your schoolwork or career.

As long as you can take it in moderation, though, there's no side effects that I can think of.

Well Rastor, that is true for everything. Some people just cant handly stuff, be it computer games, gambling, sex, drugs, hunting, golf, cleaning you name it. For them it is just a matter on what they get hooked on.

No, no, no -that was basically what I voted. *Generally* speaking, computer games are just enterntainment and thus cannot "harm" anyone -it is the rare exceptions that cause some talk about the "harmfulness" of games.

As a matter of fact I've done a bit of research on this but everything that I think has already been covered, so I'll just post some links here.

    http://anthonylarme.tripod.com/gc/gceloccen.html

There may be more to it than this but for the information I was after this was enough.

    http://www.joystick101.org/story/2002/4/25/12134/6022

    More of the same.

I'm sorry if some of this information may seem a bit out of whack but it's been a long time since I last went over it and I'm a bit short of time for the moment.

You know, you are asking opinions about pc games on a online forum of a pc game site, what result do you expect?

If any thinks general pc game does have negative effects on gamers, then go over to Alley of Dangerous Angles and tell me those fierce opinion exchanges are not from pc gamers.
