Ok, have any of you guys gone through the Oasis with the "Improved Oasis" mod installed? Maybe it's just me but I see little to no improvement. I mean, come on...you are supposed to be fighting an army! I think there should be a lot more fighters, pike men, and archers to begin with, as well as a few portals where more reinforcements can teleport in...like in the first test you face in the abyssal fortress. Also, I think there should be more monsters in Suldanessellar, than just Golems and Rakshasa. How about a band of drow, a buch of vampires, or even some devil shades? I'm sure John would have a lot more forces on his side considering how powerfull he is.

Anyway, I plan on contacting the makers of the tactics mod and suggesting some more improvements, but I would like some backing to insure a change. :rolling:

The oasis needs improving alot, but the elven city is about right, no need to go overboard with it. Remember they wont be defensless and would be able to repel a fair army anyway. Maybe introduce some battles in the midst of the city rather than just helpless hostages.

That would be true if most of their forces weren't off defending the temple against the drow. It still strikes me as odd that there is only one drow fighter in the city. :rolling:

I found that after cranking out Incendiary Cloud, Earthquake, and Firestorm, it's still about as easy.

I've never used that mod so i don't know how much it adds but I would probably agree with you if I had. That should be like the hardest fight in the game simply because there are so many guys even if they are all relatively low-level.

i agree with both arguments they should be harder like you said kat, 'you are supposed to be fighting an army!' but if you go by that theroy id believe that the yaga shiro battle should be harder as well. they keep talking about a 'fire giant army that is sieging the city' but unless im wrong there is maybe 6-8 fire gaints and yaga shiro; what kind of army is that that could leave a big city in siege?

Oh, I agree that Yaga Shura's "army" is at best, pathetic. I usually hang out on the bridge and wait for the patrols to spawn until I get bored.

Come to think of it, there are a lot of times in the game where the enemy you face is lacking in numbers. I am going to start writing an outline of things that need to be improved tomorrow, and I will definitely add Yaga Shura's army to the list, along with the amount of monk resistance you encounter when entering the Monastery.

Also, if you can think of any other times when the battle just doesn't live up to expectations, let me know. :rolling:

There are quite a few times in Shadows of Amn where I felt more enemies were needed:

The Shade Lord - not very tough himself, certainly not as tough as the Shadow Dragon you fight before him. Nothing in the way of tough allies. Maybe a few gated demons to help him out or an army of shadows.

The Kuo-Tuo warrens in the Underdark - the mind flayer enclave is hard, as is the one with the beholders (particularly with the tactics mod installed) but the kuo-tuo warrens are a pushover.

The fight with Roenall - you fight him towards the end of SOA yet he's nothing special. Boost his fighting abilties, give him a few high level abilities and add a dozen or more warriors to his party.

Spellhold - considering its reputation Spellhold is suspiciously empty of decent challenges. Most of the enemies aren't especially difficult to kill (particularly not if you've done most of the chapter 2 quests by this stage). Throw in some high level challenges to make the place dangerous rather than just dull.

Ust Natha - when the drow turned against me I wiped out their entire city. Surely I shouldn't have been able to kill an entire city even with characters of level 16 or so? Either have some incredibly high level drow fighters or respawn the ones that are there at such a rate that the party have to flee. Maybe even throw in some of the dreaded monsters of the Underdark if the party look like they're doing too well.

    And in Throne of Bhaal:

Yaga Shura's mountain home - to say this is supposed to be his home fortress there aren't a whole lot of fire giants around. Even the ones that are here aren't much of a match for a party of 25+ level characters. Give them some fire giants mages and whirlwind attacks for the fighters and this might be a challenging place instead of a walkover.

I know how you feel. Right before I had to reformat my PC, I was just emerging from the Underdark. I'm not sure why the Tactics mod didn't upgrade that section of the game.

The Shade Lord - Well, considering that you did just slay/sneak by a dragon, and considering the relatively small area that the Shade Lord is in, I feel that the only possible improvements here would be to toughen up the Shade Lord and Shadow Patrick, and maybe add one more spell caster to his group.

The fight with Roenall - I agree. There should be more backup.

Spellhold - Hmmm...a imprisoned lich, and a few wandering hostile mages maybe?

Ust Natha - I think that a band of drow priestesses, and a dozen of fighters at main entrance should be suiting. After all you did just piss off a major house in their city.

Yaga Shura's mountain home - Hmm...I think it could use a few more bad guys. After all, the game tells you that the entrance is well traveled through, or something like that. :rolling:

If anyone wants any changes made to Improved Oasis, then I'm not going to be the one to do it. Sorry. :)
It was born a 5 minute job, and a 5 minute job it will remain, as far as I'm concerned. Anyone else is, of course, welcome to take up the mantle of "development" if they want.

Did you try my quickie SpellHold Lich Mod? You can find a link to it on SP.

Kitrax, adding floods of enemies may not be a good idea. Computers can only handle so much. The fastest way to get a mod yanked off your user's hard drive is to make a mod that crashes their comp.

I could make a mod which causes 150,000 enemies to spawn in the Oasis and try to kill you. No computer that exists today could run that. See my point?

Concentrate on improving AI, rather than adding more enemies.

I seem to think I tried the Spellhold Lich mod - I'm assuming this is the lich with the bone golems just before you meet Dace the vampire? The lich was hard but I was pretty high level by the time I came to Spellhold - I generally do most of the chapter 2 quests before Spellhold - and so he didn't cause me that many problems.

Maybe instead of just a single lich there should be several. Or replace the bone golems with adamantium golems. And Umber Hulks and Minotaurs have no place in Spellhold - boot them out and stick a few imprisoned demons and devils in their place.

The fight with Bodhi in Spellhold isn't especially hard. Maybe instead of a couple of vampire allies, she should have half a dozen of them. Or, better still, a few non-vampire allies so that hitting them with Daystar doesn't win the fight in the first five seconds?

dshadow, yes that is the mod. Glad you liked it.

Thanks for the suggestions for improving it. You gave me a new mod idea.

Glad you liked the ideas. I'd love to write my own mod one day (when/if I ever make myself learn some scripting) but in the meantime I just have to rely on what other people can do. ;)
