Orcs. Definately. They are "derived" from (or is it based on?) elves so it fits neatly.

Orcs were created from elves and bred by Sauron to be the opposite to Elves. Evil, mailicious and they perverted nature. Sauron created them to show his contempt for elves and as such the elves hate orcs becuase they are a pervision of all that the elves believe. The elves did not have that much to do with spiders they both lived in the forests but they usually stayed clear of each they don't really fill the description of a racial enemy while any time the elves could the elves destroyed orcs. (although they grew more cautious as their numbers dwindled as many elves left middle earth)

Orcs are the classic enemies in Fellowship of the Ring at least. And all those clips of Legolas, rapid-firing his bow into the orcish hordes never fails to amaze. :)

Orcs. I think there would be very few cases where an Elf from Middle Earth would not have Orcs as their racial enemy, given that they were bred specifically in mockery of Elves; the hatred between the two races is mutual and extremely bitter.

When Melkor(Morgoth Bauglir enemy of the world) stole the three jewels (Silmarils) who went with him?

Oh and Kyndig orcs were not evil copy of elves for they were much weaker and bred very quickly.

Legolas is from Mirkwood (I think, been a long time since read book). Mirkwood was infested with spiders, so why wouldn't it be spiders?

    I vote for option 3: Dwarfs :)

Orcs and Elfs where always the biggest enemies of each other, because the origin of the orcish race.

Orcs. It's a lot cooler to fight them than creepy crawly spiders.

IIRC dwarf-elf hatred has began when Thingol was slain by dwarfs :
Thingol's doom came upon him when Beren brought him a Silmaril from Morgoth's crown as the bride-price of his daughter Lúthien. He summoned Dwarves from the Blue Mountains to set the jewel in the necklace Nauglamír, and the Dwarves became so enamoured of their work that they slew Thingol in his own treasury.

I cant remember any earlier event that would couse disliking of races :(

The orc-elf hatred started much earlier than this, from the time of the orcs' creation. The episode with the Nauglamír happened during the First Age wars between the Elves (and allies, including Dwarves) and Orcs in Beleriand. The betrayal of Thingol did not affect all Elves and Dwarves - only two houses of Dwarves were involved in this, and the other houses continued to have good relationships with Elves, as shown by the cooperation and alliance between the Dwarves of Moria and the Elves of Eregion in the Second Age. Later, however, the Dwarves refused refuge to the Elves when Sauron invaded their land, and further on the Dwarves were blamed by Elves in Lórien for awakening the Balrog, which increased the distrust of the Dwarves by the Elves. However this didn't reach the state of racial enemy, as both the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings show. The Elves of Mirkwood, being descended from those of Doriath, would have most reason to hate Dwarves, but while they would kill spiders on sight (and similarly Orcs), they merely imprisoned Thorin and Company in not uncomfortable conditions. The treatment of Gimli by the Elves of Lórien shows great distrust, but not hatred.
