There's an Irish guy I know who does the same; claims that adding milk or sugar to tea or coffee doesn't let you appreciate the "real" taste. Bugger that: I know how I like it, that's how I'll drink it!

Still, there are more subtleties to tea making than I think this poll can fully grasp; do you pour on the milk first, or the boiling water? (me - water; tea is the opposite to coffee in that to release the flavours better you need the water as hot as possible)

Do you go for unusual teas / flavoured coffee? (e.g. green tea, Lap-shang-dog-poo or whatever it's called; horrible stuff)

And of course, how many sugars? (me: 1, but an American mate of mine has about 10! :shake: )

Only Milk in regular Tea, nothing in green tea.
Normally only Sugar in Coffee, though occasionally a flavoured syrup.

When I have some nice filtered coffee I add half a teaspoon of ground cardimon to the coffee blend. This tastes great and is good for settling ones stomach. I find that adding milk first, weakens the taste.

In the evenings I usually have Turkish coffee to give my espresso maker a rest. Its more appealing to boil coffee in a cezve.

For tea, milk *must* be poured in last, or its better to have it 'black'. I like my tea to look dark orange so only a little milk is required.

Silly tea related things in N.Ireland - its supposed to be traditional to have 1 sugar in your tea if you are Catholic and milk or lemon if you are Protestant. If you are from either community and do the opposit, you get mocked and I am not joking on this. For coffee, religion does not come into it hahahha.

Personally I don't like sugar added to any drinks.

I just add a little sugar to my coffee or tea. If I have honey I'll put that in my tea, rarely have any though.

Depends; usually sugar, the amount depends on just what kind of tea I'm drinking. Sometimes lemon, but never milk.

I habve been known to experiment with cinnamon, lime, and other interesting stuff :D

It all depends on the tea I am drinking:

Assam: I use cream and specifically demerara sugar

Earl Grey: just a little sugar or honey

Georgian Black: nothing or a little sugar

    Jasmine: a little sugar

    Green: a little sugar

    White: a little sugar

    Irish: Baileys :D

English Breakfast: milk or cream and sugar

As you can see, I generally prefer my tea sweetened somewhat.

I don't drink coffee and have never been to Starbucks.

I don't think Starbuck's coffee was anything special to be honest but Baileys' in tea sounds strange. I might try that when I get home from work.

Irish coffee is good, but you need whiskey (not too much hehehe), fresh cream (real, not the squirty kind), sugar and some good arabica coffee.

    I don't drink coffee.

For my tea I don't add milk or sugar but I do like to add a nice dollop of scotch. :yum:

In general, good coffee or tea doesn't need additives, and bad coffee or tea can't be helped by them. For me, the usual mode of sippage for either beverage is black, unsweetened.

Now, that's not to say that I never get in the mood for a cup of something that's been well-doctored, but those are specific instances and not common practice.

I don't drink either very often. When I'm forcing myself to stay awake or tired at work I drink a mug of coffee and I drink it all black, putting milk or sugar in makes it only worse. ;)

Tea I've never liked. Tea allways, no matter what sort has that tealike taste which I can't stand.

Espresso with milk and sugar. Sometimes espresso black and without sugar.

If black and without sugar, I prefer Turkish or instant. Instant is also good with milk and sugar but Turkish is less so. It's better just black or with herbs.

I would drink coffee with milk and no sugar, but I don't drink sweet coffee without milk. If it has no milk, I don't want any sugar.

As for tea, always with lemon. Perhaps without sugar and lemon but not with sugar and no lemon. If it has sugar, it needs lemon.

I drink coffee in little tiny teddy bear picnic cups. I don't like big coffee mugs. So, I only put like a half teaspoon of coffee and sugar in. I think coffee is just vile without sugar but I drink tea without sugar.

Each to his own but I would never put milk or sugar in my coffee or tea because then it doesn't taste like coffee or tea any more.

At a cafe I will always have a short espresso or a long black. Never a cappuccino, latte, or flat white - all far too milky for me.

Milk and sugar in my coffee, unless I REALLY need to wake up, then I'll take it straight black.

Lemon and sugar/honey with tea, unless it's green tea, then I'll have it straight.

Sorry, missed the idea of tea with milk being there. Sure, tea with milk can be good. It's not something you could drink like water, it bores you quickly and doesn't leave a good aftertaste in large quantities, but it's good. Oh, sorry for rambling so much about something so trivial as milk in tea. Damn, I need medical aid. ;)

How the hell can you drink tea without milk? Tea without milk just isn't tea.
