Monkey Island 3 was my first Monkey game. I think it's the best. But of course, my "opinion" could be skewed.

I actually played through Monkey1, and there are some funny parts, but I love the voice acting and the whole "multimedia" of 3. I played partway through 2, and didn't really like the part I played.

Same thing with Monkey4. I actually watched someone/help someone play through half of it, and it was just terrible. The whole game is like a slapstick, off the previous 3.

3 had just the right blend. Much like Day of the Tentacle, and Sam and Max. They just hit that sweet spot mix of everything. Comedy, sarcasm, antics, puzzles, cutscenes, movies, sound, music.

The whole works. So, my vote is for MI3. :)

On a related side note, I actually rented this giant chicken (that was on a trailer), and left it for a birthday present (weekend) outside a friend's house, parked at the curb. I put a sign on him that said "El Pollo Diablo!"...

My favorite happens to be Monkey 2. Tons of funny quest solving schemes... especially the end against LeChuck :p

But too bad no sword duelling :( I missed that after playing Monkey 1.

got to agree with blog, 2 was the best even without the voice acting. 3 was also very good but I thought very short, haven't played 4 cause of the 3d graphics they look like crap

[IMG] Well, I played all of them... I'd say 2 was impossible to finish without a walkthrough (it even had a few bugs that could prevent you from completing it, I experienced one like that), so that one doesn't make it to the top.

For me it's a tie between 1 and 3 (CMI). So of the latest, Curse of Monkey Island is definitely the best. 4 (EMI) was a kind of attempt of going back to the roots, but I didn't like it that much, though it's still worth playing. The whole going to 3D with classic adventure games is stupid, IMHO. Even though Grim Fandango rocked...

I would have to say four, but only because it's the only one that I have ever been able to find and play. Does anyone out there know where I can get a good deal, either in the web, or in Ontario?

here in the old world there is package with monkey 1-3, i bet this one´s released in america, too. you should make your bargain there.

my favourites are the first two, i really can´t decide which one to put on top. monkey 1 was one of the first pc games i played and the graphics and sound astonished me. the soundtrack in both parts became instant classics to me and i can´t remember too much more computer games with such catchy tunes.

i really like the draw-and-scan-technique they used for part 2, it made look everything much more organic than the pure computer painted first part.

part 1 features the duels, but i would´ve been disappointed to see them again in part 2, in fact that´s one of the crappy parts in 3 i think.

i really couldn´t say which one featured better humour. though part 2 benefits a whole lot from its prequel it had still got some pretty good punches.

    The Monkey Island series rocked!!

Played them all and luved them all.
The Revenge of LeChuck is absolutely my fav.

Guybrush: Finally I found the treasure of Big Whoop!
Herman Jumping out of the bushes: Oh, you mean this treasure
Guybrush: Herman, how did you get here so fast??
    Herman: I took a shortcut
    Guybrush: Shortcut?!?

There were some weird bugs in the games like
in the romantic scene of Monkey Island III.
In this one Elaine turns into a flesheating troll and bites of Guybrushs head.

BTW, The Voodoo Lady in Escape says that the 5th Episode is coming out.
    YAY!! Cant wait
