    [IMG] What was/is your favorite helmet type? Nostalgia had me asking this one and I wondered about your opinions as well.

    Amnish Guard for certain. Those "dragon-wings" helms was the only helms in teh game i liked the look of. Only reason to use anything else was if they had magic. Even then my last party as they finished BG1 went to beatup Sarevok with all but one using the nonmagic Amnish guard helmet.

    I like "the Eyes of Truth" (IIRC); the infravision helm you get off the cleric bounty hunter in Nashkel. But the Amnish guard ones are cooler for some characters, and Kagain's is awesome too. The standard helms are just pants, IMHO.

    I love Kagain's "dwarven" :rolleyes: helm until I can get the Helm of Glory, which is just about the only helm that gives you an AC bonus. The Helm of Balduran looks so stupid on anyone except a dwarf, so I usually don't use it unless my PC is a dwarf or I have Kagain or Yeslick in my party. :sosad:

    How can you not get the Helm of Balduran?! It's the best helmet in the game! Even in BGII and TOB it's still the best helmet!

    I didn't say I didn't get the Helm, I just don't use it. Usually I give it to Degrodel, kill him to get it back, and then sell it at Sorcerous Sundries. Every once in a while, I'll even let Degrodel leave with it. But sometimes, if there's a dwarf in my party, I'll get it back from Degrodel and let my dwarf wear it.

    The reason that I don't use it is because it's UGLY! The only characters it looks good on are dwarves. Not to mention that some of its powers don't make sense. I can see the AC and save bonuses easily, but how the heck does a helmet help you swing your sword? And the base HP bonus gets annoying when you load, because you have to check whether it worked or not, and if it didn't, it's like you just took 5 HP damage, because you have to take the helmet off and put it back on to reactivate the effect! :grr:

    Another good reason to let Kagain have it: automatic regeneration! :grin:

    But yes, I do agree it looks stupid on all non-dwarves. Especially elves. Although, it does fit Shar-Teel's portrait, so it's bearable to have her use it. The HoB is one of the things that improved in looks between BGI and BGII, for me. There aren't too many others I can think of... :p

    All helms save the Amnish Guard ones (and helm of opposite alignment use same graphic) looks horible ingame. Most of them is okie in the "doll" screen.

    Was there not someone that made a "remob helmet animation" script somewhere ? modified it to show only amnish guard hemlet animations in teh game itself would rock.

    @Felinoid
    You know that if you don't use it you can at least sell that to that guy in the NW part of BG for 5000GP, right? I bet it's more than Sorcerous Sundries pay... Also, you get to kill some cool invisible stalkers, helmed horrors and other stuff....

    @Magpie:
    All hail Kagain! :thumb:
    I never use Shar-Teel because her constant man-bashing gets old quick, so I usually just challenge her, beat her, refuse to let her join, then shoot her in the back as she walks away. :evil:

    @Elwyn:
    Yes, and his name is Degrodel. :rolleyes: :shake:

    If you put it on Minsc's head it looks as if he is wearing a jester's hat. (fits him perfectly)
    And I always use the helm and the cloak of Balduran, they are simply precious for my fighter.

    @Magpie: Kagain regenerates even without the helm, he simply has TOO MUCH constitution :D

    I think Magpie's point is that Kagain can regenerate the 5 damage that you effectively take when you take the Helm off and then put it back on, which is sometimes required to reactivate the HP bonus.

    Oops, I thought that Degrodel is that petrified elf :X How do you get the helmet after giving it to him? I can't kill him fast enough. Can you pick his pocket for it?

    I usually use Algernon's cloak (or the nymph cloak, if I've already given Algernon's to Pheirkas) on him, and make him help against the horrors. :evil: Once he's redirected, he won't disappear. Then you can either pickpocket or kill him. This charm strategy works with just about anyone you don't want to leave the area.

    I liked the Flaming Fist plumed helm, then I went to Nashkel and said, 'Hey man! I want helmets like that!' I'm taking a 5-person party through now and adding NPCs to strip their stuff. Kaigan's is too 'kewl'. Until I get magical ones, I give my cleric and druid the FF helms and fighters the winged ones.

    The infravision helm on a guy makes me wonder if they use him to clean out cannons. Lol.

    Kagain's golden winged helmet for certain. Looks especially good on a tank with yellow selected as primary colors, wearing ankheg armor. When playing a good-aligned party, I usually invite Kagain in just long enough to steal his helmet, then give him the boot.
