I don't know about you, but I was kind of disappointed. Maybe I expected another Baldur's Gate, but after going through the first Icewind Dale and then playing this, it just doesn't live up to its predecessor. Sorry to say this, but for me, it just ain't that great.

One last thing though: Why the heck did they remove paper dolls?

[IMG] I think it is actually a good game - I voted that it wasnt as good as the BG series though. I suppose they disposed of the paper dolls to try something new.

[IMG] Frankly, that poll's no good. You can't just make a black and white choice when it comes to something like this. You must always have grey as an option too. According to your poll, the game is either great beyond belief or sucks majorly.

I believe that such poll without the "grey" option would be valid for NWN... :p

I haven't played IWD1 so I can't compare it to that one. I did play BG1 and BG2, and I got to say, those were better then IWD2. Don't get me wrong, I'm having A LOT of fun with the game, I think it's great, but it just isn't BG2.

[IMG] The point of the poll was to force people to decide whether it was good or bad for them. If I had included a "gray" area, everyone would pick it. Even me. With most polls, that seems to happen and I wanted to know whether people liked it or not. The point of the poll was not to prove it was a mediocre game.

If someone really felt like they neither really liked nor disliked it, they shouldn't have voted.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and another thing. The name of the poll reveals the point of it: "Do you really like this game?" not "Do you like this game?"

The way I see it, the first question was a good one; most people would (I think, anyway) either love this game or hate it. The second question, though, comparing it to the BG series, was a little heavy-handed. The two series (IWD and BG) emphasise different things: strong storyline and engaging characters in BG, and tactical combat in IWD. While on a whole I prefer the :hippy: deeper experience (boy, did that sound New Age) that was BG, I also love some uncomplicated hack'n slash. Bottom line, that last questions could have had a few more options.

Considering most of us have played a number of IE games, you can't expect us to be as unrealistic to be able to pick either a straight 10 or a 0 without feeling bad about picking either. That said, I voted for both superlative options, but I don't really think IWD2 is the best thing since sliced bread, even though I'm enjoying the game.

This is not fair. Only two options, I meant.
I think this game is great but I never played BG series. Anyway, IWD2 is a great tactical battle game and not merely hack&slash.

It's not supposed to be fair, for my purpose, at least. Read my previous post please to figure out what I'm saying.

I already read the whole topic. But it is still not fair, I think. We don't have to agree on this. All I am saying is that, that's the way I would do it. Bye...

Hmm, I really liked the BG-series, and to a lesser extent IWD, IWD2 is good, but some of the riddles are too hard,(ie. Dragon's Eye (I hate that place)) to figure out, I'm sitting wondering...

[IMG] I agree with many of the other respondendts in that the poll is too lopsided. However overall I am giving the game a big thumbs down, although I don't need the anti-depression pills...yet. I really hate a few things about the game which overwhelm any highlights I've enjoyed. Baldur's Gate series I enjoyed thoroughly and is the reason I picked up IWD and IWD II. BG Series was indeed better but still had some of the flaws that are either manic in this game or I've just grown tired of. First too many dumb meaningless quests, I think playing errand-boy and fix the broken wheel in Targos sums up the stupidity of the first few hours of gameplay. The storyline is peripheral at best, I have to ask myself half the time "Why am I here?", "Who are these people and why am I killing them again?". And a lot of this comes from the fact that I spend an inordinate amount of time solving assinine puzzles just to open a door. The EMBRACE THE SHADOW DOOR, Talking Painting of Teleportation, and Lightning Prism that breaks so you can fix it again (all in the Ice Temple) are some of the most bizarre, illogical, frustrating and ridiculous challenges I've encountered. It reeks of Alice in Wonderland children's fables, not high adventure. Endless items you schlep around with you just in case you might need it again to get to the next phase (chronic in BG as well) are a subject in dire need of review by Interplay. These things outweigh my enjoyment of cool things like the Battle Square. In spite of all this I will probably play the game through to give it a chance to redeem itself, though my hopes aren't high.

I have to agree with the others here. You can't have the black and white options in a game. I voted for both negatives, but I felt bad about doing it. This is not a bad game by any means, but it could certainly be better and in my opinion, it does not live up to the hype it recieved.

I don't have a problem with the puzzles, they rarely take me more than a few minutes to solve anyway. I stopped playing about halfway through the first chapter because I found some other RPGs that I feel were better. Soon, I'll come back and finish it, but for now I'm only playing it sporatically.

I do agree with my decision that the IWD series is not as enjoyable as Baldur's Gate was. Whether it's the lack of a highly involved story or the nonexistant party interaction and atmosphere, I don't know. Either way, I could not tear myself away from BG and its sequel. This one, I can.

    Now I've finally finished it...

Targos wasn't all that bad. Other than that, I'll be playing Icewind Dale 1.

It doesn't deserve 10 seconds in the microwave; probably out of nostalgia for the Original. But it'll go back on the spindle, and away from the quick access case.

I agree that you shouldn't have completely black and white responces. If you want to avoid neutral responces, it might be better to have less extreme responces. I gave bad votes for both, but I don't hate it, quite far from it, actually - I just think it's below my expectations, but it's still a fun game.

Perhaps this is because your computer doesn't meet the standards? I mean, I'm on a pIII 500 with only 64mbram in it, with a lousy graphics card and it goes perfectly for me. (Except when I'm playing for a really long time. :D )
