Just a matter of interest really.

What is everyones preferred character type? IE: race, class, stats, etc.

Elven Wizard, played one in almost every game I have ever played since p&p D&D 10 years ago. I played Diedra Darkmoon for around 8 years, got her to 32 level High Mage, when she finally took out her arch enemy, the goddess Auril, I retired her. I played a high elf wizard in bg, everquest, icewind dale, and bg2. All named Diedra Darkmoon, have to stick with what I know best =) Although, since they added kits to bg2 I have to admit, I LOVE the swashbuckler. They are my second favorite class.

I started out with a paladin (did so also in BG 1), I choose the Cavalier kit. Mostly because I wanted to go after the dragons and the cavalier has a bonus for hitting dragons and demons and is immune to poison and fear.
The second choice for BG2 would be the Fighter/Druid (because I played with him also in BG1 and IWD).
My paladin is human ofcourse, I've maxed it out on strength and constitution and lowered it's wisdom dramatically for that.
The Fighter/Druid, will be a low charismatic, neutral strong guy.

I seem to always gravitate to one of two classes. Fighter or Ranger. When Im a fighter I am nearly always a burly Dwarf, preferably with war hammer or axe profficiencies (sp). When Im a ranger I am either elf, half elf, or human. I love the extra attacks and just the role play behind a ranger.

[IMG] Well, I thought that the new sorcerer class seems the most like a Bhaalspawn. Plus, I like that class a whole heck of a lot. I can't wait until I import my BG char into NVN, since NVN will operate by true 3rd edition rules, and under those rules I believe sorcerers can wield swords, wear armor, etc.

I prefer humans because they have no penalties to any attributes and they can pick any character class. Since I gravitate towards warrior classes, I suppose Dwarf and half-orc characters are fine too. For finesse, almost nothing beats a half elf Kensai. Besides, the dual-class ability of humans, in my humble opinion, far surpasses that of multi-class.

I've always been partial to warrior classes...my first BG character was also a burly dwarf, and I imported him over. I'm also fond of paladins. I just imported my paladin from BG last night so I could play him when I finish BG2 the first time.

I was only going to play it twice, but with all these great character options, there's no way I'll be able to stop there. The thought of playing with a half-orc makes me drool.
