Please help me with the Character Roll screen

    I just purchased Baldur's Gate this morning :) The walkthrough I obtained off of this site states I should try for a 96 roll. Now this will obviously (probably) take a looong time. Is there a trick that I can use to make this process quicker for me to get my desired roll?

    I say just take what you get, it can't matter all that much. If yer really worried aobut it just try it afew times untill you get a high roll.

    96 is close to impossible except for a paladin or ranger.

    My record is some 98 or 99 with paladin and ranger and 94 for other classes with not so high requirements and I'm known to seat half the day rolling.

    Actually for a fighter or wizard 85 is more than you really need and 90 is really good - comparing to real people, even such gifted individuals as I have a total sum not exceeding the latter.

    You can get higher rolls than BG2.I was able to get a fulled STR DEX and CON with other rolls minimum 10.
    Also there are tomes which adds a point to one of your stats when it's consumed.

    You can roll a 90, and be satisfied, because if you read the tomes throughout the game you will obtain 96 as a final score....

    Actually, there is another tome of wisdom in Baldur's Gate and even another in the expansion (TotSC). That makes 98 the final score. :D

    Actually, there's a cheat you can use on that screen which gives you max stats. I'll edit this post if I can dig it up somewhere.

    Edit: can't find it. But I know it's a combo of either alt or ctrl + something else...

    If you have cheats=1 entry in the game.ini (if I remember clearly)
    it's either F8 or ctrl-F8

    Don't cheat. It is not needed. For example I wanted 18 str, dex, con and cha with my fighter. So I needed only 78... (I got 91 anyway). It is not very hard to get excellent stats, because you can decrease stats you don't need to +-9 if you are role playing or to 3 when you are powergaming.

    I think that ctrl+8 only works in BG2. Also, after nearly 16 hours of rolling(I know, I get called psycho a lot), I got really good
    stats....maybe the game got tired of my rolling and gave me high stats...lol
    I got a 98 score after all the rolls.... for my half-elven cleric/mage...So it's STR 18, DEX 18, CON 16(anything higher isn't worth it, since both mages and cleric get up to a max of +2 HP bonuses on lvl up), INT 18, WIS 18, and CHA 10(yeah, I'm ugly, but that's where the nymph cloak and Wizard spell 'Friends' comes in)
    This is one character I'm defintely importing into BG2.. Maybe I'll try her solo all the way from BG1~BG2:ToB, hehe.

    If ou are not fighter, paladain or ranger, you don't need more than 15. There is a permanent +1 tome

    Not to advocate cheating, but, if you know what total roll is reasonable, why not just use an editor straight away to change the stats to what you want. So long as you control what you change, then it's not really cheating, it's just saving a hell of a lot of rolling time.
