I've never really played a mage and a wild mage is just crazy to me! It's nice how she just jumps into frays but I can see this going wrong really soon :( Any advice on this Wild Thing?

Wild Thing you say ?

Chances of rolling bad results on the wild magic table get lower as she levels, you'll also want to have chaos shield up as often as possible when you get it, as it adds a +15 modifier to any wild surge roll she has to make.
You can complete Neera's personal quest to get Adoy's belt, which give you an additional +5 Save vs. Petrification/Polymorph, protecting you from some of the more annoying wild surges to have to deal with, like Neera petrifying herself or polymorphing herself into a wolf.
The Amulet of spell warding you can pick up during the initial encounter with Dorn on the way to the mines could be useful for Neera as well, giving +2 to saves vs spells, which could save you when an effect backfires on her.
BG2:EE also has a new unique mage robe you can get as a quest reward that should help, the Robe of Goodman Hayes will put the wearer under a permanent chaos shield, saving up some spell slots for Neera, though at this point you will probably also have unlocked improved chaos shield, which adds +25 to all wild surge rolls instead.
Other then that, save often and hope for the best. I definitely would not advice trying to play an ironman/no reload challenge with a wild mage in your party.

I never bothered with Chaos Shield with her. Most of the time her misfires had minor effects so it wasn't that much of an issue.

Never bothered with the Beamdog companions. They talk a lot and every dialog is VA'ed and the VA job is like a Russian modders.
