I found once a link on some rpg site to a program to allow you to play BG2 but with the IWD2 engine.

I googled and googled and can't find it anymore. Does anyone know about this?

What you're thinking of is Icewind Gate 2; yet another mod by Westley Weimer. However, it's currently on hold, and still heavily bugged, so not recommended for use. There are currently no signs of work restarting, and no way of telling when that'll change.

YES it is full of bugs and thus not recommended unless you are expert at CLUACcodes to get around those nasty bugs... You may still try though, it can be aa different experience.(fpr the good or the bad)
