Playing .avi files?

    [​IMG] I just got a movie in .avi format but my only movie player, windows media player, refuses to play it :( what program do I need to run this type of file? Something free and easily downloaded please ;)

    God. Generic question supreme.

    .avi is a container file for video - it can use any codec.

    But overall, for most codecs, VLC is a good guess.

    That page has pretty much everything you might need. Just get the player, download the codecs, and extract/install them to one place.

    DivX was probably the one required for .AVI files. Can't remember exactly, since many bundles have it integrated (e.g: CCCD).
