I just found a morningstar +2 that has a chance of phasing an enemy. I was using it against a big skeleton, and he phased, got all blurry, but I didn't notice a difference.

what is phasing, and how can I use it to my advantage?

When a creature is phased, its body is between some plane and other IIRC, or something like that. It does some minor damage over time just like poison, but there can also be another effects such as missing attacks I am not sure. The manual explains all, and I haven't looked at it for ages. Overall it is not very useful IMHO.

Phasing is similar to getting poisoned, the target takes damage over a period of time. It could be that undead are immune to the damage type it causes (it might be disease damage, but I'm not sure).

Is it the 'Morning Star of Lesser Phasing'?
    ****************
    Okay, here's what phasing do:

It will Disease a target for 10 seconds, dealing x points of damage per second...

The specific morning star I mentioned above states you diseased for 10 seconds, dealing 1 point of damage each second. The target, or you, is rendered nauseous for that period of time... And you'r target is also under the effect of the 'blur' effect during this period of time.

Basically, phasing is just a fancy way of saying you've got 15% chance of diseasing your target :p

A wee :yot: yet still somewhat relevant: As the item description doesn't say anything special about the damage dealt when a target is phased, it would come natural to think that all phase damage must be of the same amount. This is not the case, however. The morning star I mentioned above deals one poitn of dmg, per second, for 10 seconds. The phasing dagger deals 2 points of damage, per second, for 10 seconds, when succesful in phasing it's target.
AS for your skeleton, it's immune to disease ;) so it cannot take the damage, only be effected by blur.
