According to Forrester's research, PC Gaming is not in decline but actually on the rise. Here's an excerpt from the surprising article at Joystiq:

Research firm Forrester's latest report on the video games industry, entitled "North American Video Gaming: Surviving a Midlife Slowdown", summarizes a video game related mail survey of over 10,000 US and Canadian households. The report provides numerical evidence that PC gaming is not declining but is in fact already the dominant platform for video gaming and the penetration of PC gaming into North American households is expected to rise.

    What's in it for us?
CRPG as we know/knew it, is dead. Especially if North American households start buying games, since they will probably be buying crap like "the Sims".
Original games don't get sold at all...

    R.I.P. Troika Games for instance.

Um, what? Obsidian, Bioware/Pandemic, and Bethesda are all focused on RPG development, and all seem to have a fairly rosy future.

Troika closed its doors because all three of its games had major technical issues. Had they been more stable, it's more than likely Troika would have been able to secure funding for a new project.

Troika was a huge loss. Atari is (partly) responsible for the buggy state of their games - Troika was probably guilty of overextending themselves when it came to realistic deadlines.

Troika's games, despite the bugs, were fantastic. ToEE, Vampires, Arcanum...
