Party or Not....

Discussion in 'Neverwinter Nights (Classic)' started by DragonSlayer21, Apr 26, 2001.

  1. [IMG] I pretty much knows that you can't have a party in NWN, but will you always walk around alone or can you join up with one or more people for a certain quest...

    From the Official FAQ:

3.12 - Will I be controlling an individual character or an entire party?

In Neverwinter Nights you control only your character directly. In multiplayer mode, your fellow party members will be other real players from around the world and you will only be controlling a single character: your own. In certain circumstances, such as a mage's use of a familiar, it will be possible to transfer control from one creature to another. We will also provide you with partial control over henchmen and summoned creatures. Within the context of a given module, it may be possible for a player to acquire different types of non-player followers and freelancers but they will always remain under the primary control of the computer… or a Dungeon Master with a trick up his or her sleeve. ;)

Actually, no. You only get direct control over your own PC. As is stated in the above excerpt,
"We will also provide you with partial control over henchmen and summoned creatures. Within the context of a given module, it may be possible for a player to acquire different types of non-player followers and freelancers but they will always remain under the primary control of the computer…"

Partial control is not the same as controlling a party in BG or IWD. I've been told it compares to the setup in Diablo, but I'm not familiar with it, can anyone else explain the difference in more detail?

Well basically in DII, you can hire henchmen (or henchwomen) to help you in combat. They kinda just run around and follow you and shoot stuff and take hits.

  6. Thanks ladies... :)
Where did you find that FAQ thing?

[IMG] Say that around ALFA and you're liable to be burned at the stake as a heretic!
It will not be like UO or EQ inasmuch as it will be built around roleplaying in a persistent 24/7 world with 'live' DMs, not hordes of l33t pow3rgam3rs camping out where the monsters respawn to aquire ludicrous amounts of xps/treasure so they can go off randomly killing any other players they may come across without rhyme or reason.

NWN will be better than UO or EQ. As far as AFLA goes a lot is up to the DMs. I think we will have a good group of players to do some good RPing but the DMs will really make or break the experience. If they keep out non RP PKing and promote adventure and quests over hack and slash than the game will be the best thing since table top.

[IMG] Thats the plan Voltric, as laid out in the ALFA charter. Plus there's a couple of bonuses compared with table top PnP. The many minutes of dice rolling and looking up tables that take up so much time will happen in fractions of a second; and instead of pushing your figures around a hand drawn map you will be able to see them in 3D animated action. Can't wait!
