Well, after a looong hiatus from BG2, I figure its about time I complete it one more time before I move on to next gen games. I used to be a IA fan, but I dont want to tear my hair out over a game, so I'm going for SCSII this time. My planned party is

    1. F/M/T
    2. multi class ranger/clerc
    3. minsc (sk'ed to berserker)
    4. nalia (sk to give her higher thief levels, then dual to mage)
    5. Imoen (sk to sorc)
    6. sarevok in TOB

    Anyway, on to the questions

    1. Any point to taking a f/m/t since I already have nalia? Or should I just go with a f/m

    2. WIll I have enough healing power with a multi ranger/cleric, or should I go with a dual class instead

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

    1. I'd go with just a F/M - one thief is enough, and a F/M/T takes forever to level up in a large party. (As an aside, I soloed a F/M/T in SCSII - SK'd in a morturi kit, though, so it wasn't really legit.) Three mages might be over-kill, but that's just me - I usually prefer melee rather than magic.
    2. I usually rely on potions for healing, particularly mid-battle. However, if you use clerics for that, a dual-class R/C might be a better choice (although you'd miss out on ranger HLA's, but that's not the end of the world.)

I'm very much in agreement with Splunge with regards to the F/M/T. By the time he can be truly useful, you'll be quite a bit into the game. Either a F/M or a F/T would work, but best not a F/M/T. Personally, I'd go for a F/M.

I always feel a bit short on healing with one healer- even a dual-class like Anomen. However, I rarely use healing potions, so if you do, you should be fine with one. However, even with healing potions, relying on a multi-classed healer will result in lots of time spent resting to renew healing spells.

Perhaps you'd consider some form of healer in slot 6 before you get Sarevok? That way you get the healing you need before you pick up regenerative equipment, but don't disrupt the rest of the party's balance. I always find healing spells less useful by the time ToB comes around anyway.

With a sorcerer and mage you have plenty of firepower.

The R/C will be an amazing undead slayer.

Minsc as a berserker is plenty of tank (keep him good and give him axes).

For fun you might try Cernd in SoA (with or without the shapeshifter rebalancing kit), he is an awesome spellcaster and becomes an excellent tank when he gains the greater werewolf ability -- with shapeshifter rebalancing he can tank better than Sarevok.

F/T is a great class -- dual Nalia with fighter (make her ***** with short bows) and take a F/T. A F/T can clear entire sections of the map alone. UAI is unbelievable -- add to that Assassinate and Greater Whirlwind (a real killing machine).

A final option: Monk. Weak at first, but really fun in the underdark. Serious mage killers.

What? No romance? I guess if you've done them all they would be boring though.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I've thought it over, and I'm going to go with a full player created party. Heard enough of the banters anyway. For my own pleasure, I'm also going to change the avatar of all my characters into -

    1. fighter/mage multi class - female drow avatar - will wield crom faeyr and runehammer.

    2. berserker9/cleric - ogre avatar - Will use FOA and shield. Main tank

    3. fighter/mage/thief - shadow thief avatar - scarlet ninja to in off hand, main hand depending on situation. I'm thought of using a fighter thief, but decided that extra thieving skills are just a luxury. A few castings of MI and stoneskin make a big difference though

    4. wild mage - hula wizard avatar. or maybe elliseme if I go with a female

Any comments on how to fine tune this party is greatly appreciated

[edit] decided to fine tune it abit for faster leveling, and also realized I've never used a wild mage, so...

Looks like a rather nasty party there. You've got the necessary bases covered, so if you're happy with playing without banter, then go for it.

Incidentally, the number after 3 is 4, not 5. :p

Well, it should be fine. With #2, you'll be missing out on druid spells and fighter HLA's, though - if he's your main tank, iron skins would be useful, and the insect spells are always helpful. Nothing wrong with your choice, but personally I'd go with a multi R/C, which would level up pretty fast in this party.

The F/M/T won't be as painful in a 4-person party, but it will still be slow. Personally, I'd just go with a F/T - 3 mages in a 4-person party is more than I'd want. But that's just me.

Anyway, have fun. Your party should be fine.

Well like I said, I dont need thieving skills to be more than 100, so any extra thief levels are a waste. Might as well get some spell casting ability to better tank and buff.

I went for a berserker9/cleric because I installed true grandmastery and wanted to take advantage of the 5*, then I realised, hey, if I'm stopping at level 9 for berserker, a multi ranger/cleric will only be 1/2 apr and 2 dmg behind. So yeah, I'll be going for a multi r/c. Thanks for pointing me in that direction splunge
