Hey there all. I'm new to the board but have visited the site for ages. I'm a huge fan of the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series' so I have a reasonable knowledge of D&D. But I really want to get into P&P role playing and the trouble is I have no idea where to start! I was wondering if there's anyone out there willing to point me in the right direction? Any suggestions would be welcome. Cheers and thanks for taking the time to read this.

There are probably the 3.5E books at your local bookstore. Then you'll have to find people to play with. Obviously, this involves getting your friends or posting an ad or something at a hobby store or on the Internet.

[IMG] You can buy all the things you need to get you started via SP: http://www.sorcerers.net/Books/index_man.php

The first thing to do is buy the Player's Handbook, and possibly the other two core manuals if you're interested enough. Where you go from there is up to you - if you want to explore Forgotten Realms, getting the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting book for starters is a must. Then there are more books who focus on specific areas of the FR... Check the link and descriptions of the books at Amazon for info.

Personally I'd say that you should download a free system off the net before heading into D&D, especially if the people you're playing with are inexperienced and not quite as enthusiastic as yourself. Make sure it's rules light. If everyone is having a good time, ask them about upgrading.

Yes, Tal is right. Get the Player's Handbook V 3.5 first. The rule system within is not perfect, but it's certainly praiseworthy.
