Anyone fancy giving this a go? Basically start a multiplayer game, clua in all the items each player wants, set XP to the max and begin a 1 on 1 duel.

Obviously rules (like preparing beforehand) should be clear, but does anyone like the idea?

I would like this, but my computer is way to slow for playing online.

And where would you play? In the Shadow Dragon's hole? In the arena in the Copper's Coronet?

    A bit like DiabloII - cool :)

CLUAing in all the items is a good idea, but it kinda takes the fun out of it. There will be no point in looting the bodies of the fallen. :D

There should be a designated safe area where you could re-stock/heal, but no resting allowed once battle has commenced.

An outside area would be good, maybe Umar Hills or Druid Grove. If not, then some dungeon, like Sewers for example. Somewhere with terrain, so some tactics have to be used.

The big thing that will make it all difficult is that some spells only affect Enemies (and not party members) so is there an option to go hostile in MP. Otherwise classes could have a real disadvantage.

Shouldn't just be max xp, duel at different xp levels could be good fun as you could see how a mid-level sorc compares to a mid-level barb, etc.

This idea is flawed as there are way too many spells and effects who wont target friendly creatures and all PC's are green to each other. It only works in tank vs tank battle.

You could also CLUA in monsters to make the players fight through some battles before facing off against each other. Consider this a chance to buff up XP or equipment before the showdown.

Spellcasters can't regain spells once the game starts though, so they might not want to engage the monsters. Or give them plenty of scrolls instead.

I remembered seeing this on SP, but couldn't remember where. It is called MageDuel. (Fifth from the top)

Lots of people on Gamespy Arcade engage in dueling each other in Multiplayer online.

I prefer to play the story-line co-operatively online, but you can duel if you want to.

Some websites already have published dueling rules that are generally agreed by players. Don't have a good link off-hand though.

Oh, and a simple thing like hide in shadows or invisibility wont work either. So everything you can do while dueling is pitting tank vs tank. No thieves, no spellcasters, well you get the drill.

Joacquin, I'm not a dueller, but you've really got it wrong. There are only a few spells which will not affect blue-circle -- things like Comet. And HiS and Invisibility are no problem, you can be invisible to someone in your own party. You should recall if your cleric ever tried to heal your invisible fighter.

Believe me, I've observed multiplayer duels and sorcerers are certainly viable duellers.

well it might actually balance things away from mage-overpowering.
