I have an old, cheap 1amp charger that I kept in the car for my flip phone (replaced in 2013) and later used with an HTC One X+ (replaced in 2020).
Today I realized I forgot to charge my phone and wanted to stream an internet radio at work, so I pulled out the charger for the first time since I got a Samsung Galaxy S9 last year (on closeout for $200).

It told me that it was charging slowly and to use a better charger.

I've heard things about inferior chargers making the batteries in newer phones wear out faster, does that apply in this case, or was that just an old wives tale?
Is it OK to use that charger consistently at work if I want to stream the wifi all day and play music on the speakers for everyone in the tiny 3-cubicle office (we're taking turns) or do I need to bring the good charger in?

At my last job, I used the USB 3.0 port on a laptop I was issued to charge the phone, but now while I'm imaging computers and there are USB ports available, I'm swapping the computers out too much to use the USB ports on them, and I don't have a dedicated computer for me to use nearby, but plenty of empty outlets on power bars. Hence why this is the first I've noticed the old charger in my car was no good for this phone. Well, that and I was taking the train to work rather than driving a car.

I'm no expert on various battery chemistries and what the best charging regime is, but I would say charging slowly is not a problem except for your time and generally is better for battery health. But again: I'm no expert.

Well I'm mostly just using it to keep it from depleting the battery while blaring the internet radio for the rest of the room. I'm in a small 3-cubical room with two other guys imaging computers.
We're taking turns on who puts on the music and there are three of us, so twice a week.

Also let me play games while waiting for the computer with the phone in "high performance" mode instead of optimized or medium performance without draining the battery.
