    First, I have a question. How do you disable those self-wielding swords in Never's tomb in Blacklake? Ive tried fighting them several different ways, and the only way I could get past them was with an invisibilty potion...

    Now for the odd stuff:

    What do you do with these:
    * Skeletons knuckle
    * Firebettle belly

    I also have a gargoyles skull, but I know that thats a forge ingredient, but I dont have any magical armour with AC3...

    1) Those swords are supposed to be really hard. I've never been able to beat them.

    2) The Skeleton's Knuckle is an ingredient in a weapon (an undead fighting mace?)

    3) The firebeetle belly is used as an ingredient in something, but I can't remember what. I do remember using ONE belly once at one point in the game.

    Skeleton's knuckles can - among other things - be used to craft traps (assuming you have SoU/HotU installed).

    I too have never been able to beat the swords head on; I just run past, pray for some good Tumble rolls and grab the stuff in the chest fast. Then I activate the good 'ol recall stone, which conveniently plonks me back right near Uskar to return the items (though you're not too far from Gilles either, if you're playing evil). Cheesy, yes, but effective. To quote PS:T "a true warrior uses every weapon at his disposal". :grin:

    Oh ok thanks... Maybe they werent ment to be beaten (the swords)? They could be more of a think your way through the trap type deal instead of the usual hack-and-slash. ^_^

    The swords are easily defeatable if you don't try it too early.

    I have beaten them without too much trouble both times I've played (Ranger/Tomi and Rogue/Daelan), but if I tried it too early in the chapter they killed me and/or my henchman pretty quickly.

    Just try it as one of the last things you do in that Chapter, and maybe try a few protection and buffing spells/potions.

    Why does trying later in that part of the chapter help? being leveled up more? The swords are 8th level, or so I read...

    Yes. Later in the chapter means more levels, more hitpoints, better attack bonuses, better equipment, better abilities.

    My sorcerer disposed of those swords fast enough with a couple of fireballs. I used no mercenary and no familiar (in order to get more xp), but my sorc was level 8.

    It is do-able at lower lvls too, but tough! Archers or arcane spellcasters really don't have that much trouble with them. Just make sure to buff up henchmen/summons/familiars/animal companion prior to entering the tomb. That can be done either with potions or spells, or both. I usually grab a crossbow or such, and runs to the top left/right corner next to the entrance. Henchmen buffed with every potion and/or spell I can get my greedy fingers on. Fire away, and watch 'em suffer :p .
    It might take some tries, however.

    You can buy a Greater Belt of Swrdsman for about 30,000 Gold from Weapons store "Durga". It absorbs 20 damage. Wear a Chromatic Breastplate. These two together will ensure you get no more than 2-3 damage per hit. Now beat up the swords in pure melee style, even if you are playing a sorcerer.

    Another thing:

    Why are trolls, ogres, and bugbears so easy to kill in NWN, but really hard to kill in Icewind Dale? In IWD2 you have to whack on them and then toss fire on them to kill them, In NWN they just fall down after a couple/three hits, same with bugbears and the like.

    Because NWN OC is a poorly designed game full of meaninglessy simple battle, not just against Orcs but also Zombies, who are just painful to keep despatching. IWD2 is far better balanced, where every Orc fight is an appropriate challenge.

    I agree there, I actually dreaded troll-fights in IWD2, in NWN Im all "meh" about encountering trolls and other monsters. Bugbears was another monster I hated encountering in IWD2 heh.

    And all the animals that are set on attack in the game is just stupid. In some places I can see them being on attack mode, like in teh Spiritwood before you cure the spirit, that I understood... everywhere else is just "Oh look a bear is going to attack, or a boar, or a wolf/worg... oh look I got xp..." I just dont see the point of killing off the animals in places where its not necessary... and the North Road before the Green Griffon Inn, there was a polar bear!! WTF is a polar bear doing there?

    I actually feel bad after killing off the animals... and sometimes I just run the other way if my companion or that dumb wolf summons doesnt attack it first. >_>

    Im an animal-lover can you tell? heh.

    Yes, I think it is silly that my druid character, who can actually 'talk' to some animals, would end up having to fight and kill wolves in the forest.

    I ran into three polar bears near that Inn as well.
    Reminded me of "Lost." :eek:

    You can blame Bioware's monster encounter generator. It includes various monsters scaled to your level. So a level 3 character triggers a bear encounter in the woods they get 2 or 3 wimpy black bears. A level 20 gets a dozen Dire Bears. Somewhere in the middle Bioware decided to stick some polar bears in there.
