J.E. Sawyer has made it clear there aren't going to be rideable horses in NWN2. Here's a couple of snips from the forums:

Rideable horses will not be in NWN2. I'm sorry it's taken so long for you to get that answer, but there it is.

A lot of components of horses are in the game right now, but bits and pieces don't make a working whole -- especially when that working whole is a vast sprawl of interconnected subsystems.

Given their partial implementation, the large amount of work remaining for them, and their low integration into the official campaign, we decided to cut them. My apologies to those who may have been depending on mounts for their NWN2 module ideas and for players looking forward to using mounts in the OC and enduser campaigns.

    Or:

We're all disappointed. At Black Isle, when we first started work on The Black Hound, I said, "Let's talk about jumping, flying, swimming, climbing and riding horses." They are the things never done in D&D CRPGs that add a lot of interesting dimensions (literally and figuratively) in the pen and paper game.

As for what we have been doing, implementing mounts was one of those things. Our technical design for mounts was just not realistic given all of the other changes in the engine. Switching from Aurora to Electron was a massive undertaking. Underlying game logic in the engine that tied into the renderer simply broke when we made that switch. Everything from the GUI to the animation system to pathfinding to the hit particles that play on a successful attack had to be refactored.

That said, the toolset was entirely revised as well. The new functionality there is definitely a big jump forward.

Read the whole thing in the NWN2 forum at BioWare.

GOOD. In RL I am a ranger and my racial enemy is horses. :D

But it would have been nice, for other people and such. Also for moving from place to place faster. Instead of horses they should implement.... CHOCOBOS!! *plays chocobo theme song*

I can't see how not having horses is that big a deal. It wouldn't impact my buying decision.

Doesn't really impact any of my characters as none of them use the Ride skill or have any mounted feats, however, it does mean there will be no Special Mounts for paladins

Now they're stuck with only having crappy class feats like Aura of Courage, Divine Grace and Divine Health.

I don't need no stinking horses. I will still buy it.

I'm surprised. Sacred, an RPG with many mechanics elements in common with NWN I (as far as horses and motion are concerned) implemented them just fine. Ok, the horses suck, but that's just the way they set the stats.
It doesn't really bother me at all, it just surprises me. Of course, I doubt Sacred used a game engine at all like NWN.

This is just the last in a looong line of cut features.

I think NWN2 will have *less* features than NWN actually. They've cut out a *lot* of the great NWN features added in patches.

It's pretty rude if it has LESS features than the original.

As I'm finding myself gravitating back towards Warhammer, that NWN 2 would come out stripped doesn't really bother me.

With the way the market has be come, I'll be suprized if I purchase either NWN 2 or BG3, as neither of them can live up to the table top. I find non D+D RPGs to be more fun as I have no expectations for them.

Yes, I'm actually awaiting the day on which they release a Warhammer RPG. Just think something Morrowind style in the Warhammer setting. Awwww...

Speaking of, Oblivion isn't probably be going to be as great as Morrowind. And it's not like KotOR 2 was so much better, if at all, if not worse, actually, than KotOR 1. I really for the cRPG genre to end up as the realm of more or less crappy sequels. I don't expect NWN2 to be a milestone event but if Dragon Age were to suck, I would probably lose faith in the good times to come.

As for paladins, hope at least holy swords will be in. In NWN OC, there were no special feats for paladins, no horses and no holy swords. The spells were great but I'm not sure how many came with expansions and patches rather than the original OC, as I played it only when I already had expansions installed and a relatively fresh patch.

So people don't get to ride horses ... BOO HOO! God damn! I don't understand what the problem is here. Like Jigga said, yeh it would be nice to get around the place faster, but seriously, who cares?!?! You've lived without it for soOooOo long because these games have never had anything like that.

If that's all you wanted from the game then DON'T buy it and stop your whinging. :bang:

I am more disappointed by the lack of rideable wargs, dragons, half-orcs and carpets to be completely off topic.

And on the subject of being off topic I would just like to say Warhammer Online news is here .
