the first chapter is the hardest chapter in the game. don't worry if you have problem with it, i think most of us have too.

needless to say save and rest frequently.
    keep on summoning.
while scouting, let your summons take steps ahead of you.
try to alert/engage enemies one by one.

yeah, i don't think the above would be helpful but these are just what i have done and remembered.

Use your potions!!! There are PLENTY of potions in this game, and gold too, so stock up when you get the chance to buy them.

Oh, and USE YOUR POTIONS!!! A LOT!!!

Buff your characters, use potions and AoE spells which slow the enemy down. Such as Slow, or Entangle. Try and lead the enemy to a passage so that they can only reach you with minimal numbers rather than fighting them in a large clearing or cavern where you can easily get surrounded.
Use your scouts to locate the biggest threat and take out the spellcasters as soon as possible. Archers should also be high on the list since they seem to do a hell of a lot of damage.

Yes, the Svirfneblin is worth its weight in gold.
Just don't make him a spellcaster - you will have less powerful spells. Everything else is too good. Monk is almost overpowered, because I found out that Spell Resistance from Svirf Race and Monk levels stack up - I now have a SR of 50. :1eye:

Just started MP game with my cousin, he is level 8 human paladin and i am level 8 aasimar sorcerer.
We are currently inside the goblin fortress(the 2nd level of the caves)

    This is great fun :)
IWD is actually easier with a small party.
I think the baldurs gate games are BORING cause i finished them 20+ times by cheating, i will ruin my IWD2 experience by dong that :D (and i have seen almost no spoilers, all i know is that the boss are to twins and you go to kuldahar and dragons eye :) )

(gonna import sorc for next party :D )

[IMG] My trick in the first chapter was a lot of sneakiness. I use invisibility, and eventually improved invisibility, *ALOT*. Casting it on your sorcerer and running him over to a group of enemies, casting something like fireball, and then recasting invisible is how I took care of a lot of enemies. In the beginning though, I used a lot of flaming oils. I'm a big fan of spread damage weapons, you just have to be sure that you're out of range.

It may be blatantly obvious to everyone else but it took me almost all of the first chapter to figure out that...

...you should never have your cleric memorize healing spells.

They can spontaneously convert any spell to a healing spell of equal level. And having Blesses, Remove Fears, Summon Monsters and Chants available may save you quite a few healing spells. (Note that druids cannot do the same.)

How does the instantly converting spell thing work? I tried shift clicking a spell which I think is how you do it and I lost the spell but gained no healing spell as far as I could see.

    Newbie tips.
    ============
Having two sorcerers (aasimar are best) is well worth it as they can choose different spells so you have the choice and firepower.

    Scouting is essential.

Make sure all your melee fighters have slashing/piercing and blunt weapons - it makes some hard encounters considerably easier.

Web and sleep can be invaluable early on. Usually I hate the web spell but if you stand your tanks at the edge of it and pepper all the stuck creature with missiles and magic the big encounters suddenly become very easy.

Protection from normal missiles is great if you have someone wielding a twohander as missiles are often what they are most vulnerable too. It lasts quite well too.

Melfs Acid arrow and magic missile for taking down spellcasters. Removes mirror image and disrupts spells well.

Stoneskin and improved invisibility can be good for really cheap kills.

Only good and neutral clerics can heal spontaneously. Evil clerics cast inflict spells same way. You can't convert domain spells to heal/inflict spells.

monkey, did you shift-L-clicked the spell button?

I have a Morninglord of Lathander and I shift left clicked Summon Moster I (not a domain spell) and absolutely nothing happened. I really should try again but I havn't got round to it yet
