    I'd like to start my first BGT game. I've installed some mods (Ascension, one for a better challenge....but i don't remember the name.... :p ).
    I'd like to use a 4 or 5 men party until ToB in order to be able to reach 8 millions points.
    Moreover i'd like to use the same NPC from the beginning. So i'll go with me, Imoen, Jaheira (Khalid will die soon.... :D ), Viconia and Minsc or Edwin.
    I'd like to make full use of the ability to use BG2 kitsso i'm going to change the classes with SK.
    I'd like to hear your opinion on a balanced party from the beginning (when mages are weaker) in order to have fun with the entire game, and not only the last part of it.
    I'd like to use a kensai up to 40th level (never done before). For him is it better to dual wield or to go with 2 handed weapons?
    Any opinion on other classes?
    Maybe make Edwin a Sorcerer or Imoen could be better as my sister.
    Thanks for your opinion. :)

    Well, to cover the basics, you'll need a thief, probably 2+ tanks, at least one mage of some kind (including sorcerer) and a cleric and/or druid. Imoen makes a good mage or thief, but I think, all things concidered, I'd like her as a thief better. Of course you don't need a whole lot in the thief skill department, so you could dual class her later, maybe lvl 10 or so, but the thief HLAs are nice, so you may want a multi-class thief, which leaves Imoen as a mage/sorcerer. jeave Jaheira alone, she's pretty good as is. Viconia never quite seemed right to me as a cleric, though she does make a descent one, you may want her to become a cleric/mage (nice combo there) or something. If you make your hero a fighter type (Kensai?), Edwin and Minsc is a tough choice, as you've already got 2 tanks and 1-2 mages, so you don't really need either. If you make your hero something else (maybe that multi-class thief or some kind of cleric), then you'll want Minsc, and you'll probably want to change him into a Kensai (which I like to do).

    So you have:
    Imoen-(mage probably)
    Jaheira(fighter/druid)
    Viconia(cleric, cleric/mage, mage/sorc.)

    And then:
    Minsc (kensai or as is) or
    Edwin (mage/sorc., maybe wild mage?)
    Hero (as desired/needed)

    I prefer dual wielding to two handed weapons, because I think there is more chance to do greater damage. Not only do you get the extra attack with your offhand, but I think smaller weapons are generally faster. Could be wrong there though.

    The other reason is that you get some nice modifiers from both weapons that can be really useful. I prefer dual wielding to weapon and shield because of the greater possibility of increased damage.

    Given that party, I might want one or more tanks. Jaheira might do okay, but I like having three front line fighters, with at least one (but preferably more) of those having additional roles. For example, a fighter/thief and a fighter/cleric.

    As far as game npcs go, maybe go for keldorn once you can.

    EDIT:

    I'm getting BG1 tomorrow so I'll also be starting BGT, so I guess I should actually be asking for the same advice. I'm trying to decide between:

    Creating a sorceror (main character), a fighter/thief, kensai/mage and fighter/cleric, and having 2 npcs join my party. Or creating just a sorceror and maybe changing the kits of some of the npcs.

    @Proteus:

    Yes, smaller weapons tend to have a smaller Speed Factor. The benefit of this diminshes through the game though as you gain more attacks.

    He was wanting to use the same NPCs through the game, so Keldorn is out.

    OTOH, it could partly be justified by the connection between him and Ajantis. a big weak connection though.

    @Mistyca:

    You would be able to play with more of the original NPCs if you used NPC mods. Kivan, Xan and Alora come to mind, though I'm sure there is likely more. Just a thought.

    EDIT:

    @Proteus:

    Ass you edited while I was posting, I'll answer with this edit. I personally find one of BG's main attractions is the dialogue. Multiplayer-created parties lack this, so tend not to be as interesting IMO. I'd be inclined to add only one extra created one at most. Stick to NPCs that have dialogue.

    I might just do that because I'm reluctant to miss out on what is arguably an extremely important part of the game. I do wish there was more choice, but perhaps changing the kits of some of the characters is the next best solution.

    I'll probably play through BG1 using original NPCs, and if I feel the need I'll save my game, import the character to a new BG2 multiplayer game create the other characters I described.

    By the way, I know that in BGT to start a new BG2 you click on the button that formerly started the tutorial, if so, would starting a new BG2 multiplayer game not be possible? I might use BGTutu after all...
