    1.64 beta available

Any chance a Linux and or Mac version could be released? Or failing that, please give people without the Windows version a way to get at the updated data-files for building purposes? :/ It would really be beneficial to get a head-start and not having to wait 'til the official patch goes live.
Bah, sorry about that, I meant to speak about that. The Mac and Linux work on 1.64 is being worked on right now (has been for the last 3 days now) as well as the French, German, Spanish and Italian versions of the above. We are hoping to have all of it out late next week for you. Sorry for the lack of info on this.

    1.64 beta available

ok... ive read the line "MODULES CREATED/SAVED WITH THE VERSION 1.64 TOOLSET ARE TAGGED AS REQUIRING VERSION 1.63 OR HIGHER" and "IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BRAND YOUR MODULE AS 1.63 THEN DO NOT EDIT YOUR MODULE IN THE VERSION 1.64 TOOLSET" It seems to be insinuating that a module with the 1.64 patch installed can be accessed by players with only the 1.63 patch, which doesnt seem very likely... Is this just a typo or is there something more complicated that im not seeing?
Actually its part typo, part desync, part confusion, part not enough sleep. It should read:

MODULES CREATED/SAVED WITH THE VERSION 1.64 TOOLSET ARE TAGGED AS REQUIRING VERSION 1.64 OR HIGHER. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BRAND YOUR MODULE AS 1.64 THEN DO NOT EDIT YOUR MODULE IN THE VERSION 1.64 TOOLSET

    1.64 beta available

Maybe a stupid question, but how do I install this patch? All I have is a rtp file which I am not familiar with. Sorry, I am not the most computer literate person.
Hey, When you have trouble installing the beta patch, you are most likely best off not installing it and waiting for the final patch instead. It is a beta, it will have issues and it will require some manual user interaction to install and deinstall it. That said, to install the beta patch, it is important that you very carefully read the patch website. If you still want to go on, and, after reading the patch website, make sure not to unzip the file you are downloading from the website but instead put the zipped file directly into your NWN directory and then launch NWNs auto updater. To get rid of the patch you need to perform the same operation with the reverse patch also available on the site.

What are the odds of getting a hold of those 2da changes for 1.64b (or better yet, the full 1.64 2da source)? I kinda need to look at 'em to test what I need to test. Specifically:.......
1.64 full 2da source will be out after the real patch is out. You can find those files inside patch.bif using NWexplorer but I can post them tomorrow too.

    A minor complaint here...

Everyone thinks that I am negative. I prefer to call myself realistic. "
You must been awefully busy these days. I just need to turn on the TV to get spammed with ads for 5 different DVDs that all tell me they are "the DVD Event of the year". Must be a sad life sitting at home and writing all those complaint letters to all the companies ... especially if you keep adressing them to the producer instead of the publisher. Visc, move on. There has been a time where your posts were a bit closer to reality and there was more distance between you and the average troll, but that seems to be gone. As most people know we just keep you around here so we can point on you and say "look, really don't ban everyone who disagrees with us" and then brag about how tolerant we are, but even that gets boring after a while.

    LAN Connection
The only solution is to have one copy of NWN for each computer you want to play it on (at the same time).

    ping 1.63 ... response timedout
I find it amusing that people get underwhelmed by that patch if they didn't try it. To be more precise - I'm amused about people who rant about things they didn't actually test - doesn't exactly make them credible or adds any relevance to their opinion. Most changes in this patch are under the hood and more about fixing stuff than adding flashy new features.

    Bandwith profiling
To activate it, go to nwn.ini in the [Game Options] section, add in Enable SubNet Profiling=1

I didn't test in the the current executable so there is a chance it got pulled for one or another reason, so you will have to test it to find out.

    Save Failure
To deactivate add nwnplayer.ini [Server Options]
"Saving Throw Automatic Failure On 1=0"

The .ini entries should show up when you start and exit the game.
Don't know why it's not in the patchnotes, it seems to work.

In general please do not jump on conclusions on what is in the batch based on beta patchnotes, try it out in game before complaining it's not there.

Especially scripting changes tends not to go into the patchnotes because they are usually maintained by programming. On a first glance they look incomplete.

    About skyboxes
    1. There are 2 skyboxes.
    2. As far as I know no new content was added to the game because the patch already has so many complex changes to many important game systems, adding new content would not be a good idea at this point. I think there are plans for a patch with the missing preorder creatures later on. By the way, there are a lot of cool skyboxes on the vault as well.

    More:
George deserves spankings for over-hyping patch 1.64.
Nope, you deserve spanking for not reading correctly. Some of the stuff in this patch has major impact on the game, especially things like the SetPhenoType scripting function. There are several other things (i.e. toolset palette refresh now includes resources in custom erfs (hak)) that are major goodness for people working on modules and areas. If people read my posts as "all bugs will be fixed" or "There will be 50 new creatures" thats their problem, not mine. I seriously couldn't care less about people who can't handle to seperate between their expectations and the things that have actually been posted.

List Servers that want your money

I think we've all seen the "jiggle" hak pack on NWNVault and its male counterparts that make it so that NWN characters appear "anatomically correct" (how the males manage to stay at half-mast all the time may not be anatomically correct, but we'll leave that issue for another discussion). I think pretty much anyone would agree that such content falls into the "pornographic" category mentioned in the EULA, yet Bioware has done nothing about this for what, almost 2 years since the first jiggly pack was released? I'm actually surprised that Maximus hasn't removed the content from NWNVault, since it obviously breaks the EULA
Sorry, I don't agree. "Pornography" is quite different from the mere display of body parts, even if the behave anatomically correct. But anyway, it is at the discretion of the party that issues the license to enforce or not enforce certain restrictions at certain times. It's not that we run a building full of lawyers next to our office, we have better things to do. However, we do act when we feel it is neccessary. Keep in mind that most things can be resolved with a very simple measures such as contacting the person violating the Eula and only in some cases (such as Urath) a confrontation gets known to the public.

More: People who want to make money out of NWN will have to license the engine to do so. The license granted with the version on the shelves does not allow commercial exploitation.

    1.64 beta Shifter items here

The DR 40/+6 will allow you to penetrate +6 DR with your bite, which was unchanged.
That's how it is supposed to work. Bit more epic now those dragons :p

Loving the new "fail on 1" switch
For balance, that little switch has HUGE implications. Switching it off for i.e. the HotU campaign will radially change the difficulty and experience we intended this campaign to have. A lot of areas have been designed with the 5% chance for something to happen in mind (i.e. beholder caves) and when this is taken away, the campaign will appear very easy and boring. If you think about switching this setting to 0, I recommend you take some time to think what possible implications for game balance this might have.

    Invisibility Bug

It is a bug, and I hear it's fixed in the 1.64 beta 1 patch.
Yep. It turns out that the problem wasn't that you could see invisible creatures with a ranged weapon equipped, but actually that you could hear them. However, seeing and hearing both make a visual representation of the creature appear in the game (as per the original design of NWN). There isn't much (any?) distinction between the visual representation of a creature you can see or a creature that you can hear. Either way, the behavior wasn't intuitive the way it was implemented.
