Here are today's Neverwinter Nights forum highlights, collected by NWVault. Please take into account that these are only single parts of various threads and should not be taken out of context. Bear in mind also that the posts presented here are copied as-is, and that any bad spelling and grammar does not get corrected on our end.

WWW Poll: How do you usually perform your NWN updates?

For the longest time I would avoid using auto-updaters if I could, as I always wanted to have patches on hand in case of a reinstall without having to re-download them (or if the originating site vanished). I still download patches for the most part, but with NWN, in particular, I let the auto-updater now do the work.

Too bad there isn't a little option where you can tell the auto-updater to save a copy of the downloaded patch on your machine as well as do the auto-updating. Would take care of me in one fell swoop. :)
    1. Run NWUpdate

    2. Right-click on the main form.

    3. Check the option to "Save Downloaded Patch Files".

    4. Bask in the glory of an option that has been there for 2 years :p

1.65 will be mainly a maintenance patch, no major feature additions in that one, sorry.

Success of premium modules vs. acceptance of copy protection method

So what about the 10,000 people that bought the originals and somehow had their cd keys stolen?
The people Valve banned were using a single stolen cdkey that was posted on the net. I don't have any compassion for them, regardless for what reasons they did it, because it's just stupid to use a stolen CDKey on a networked system and to expect to get away with it.

The measure that they are now blocked from playing all games associated with Steam, even ones that might have not been stolen is certainly debatable, but that is up to Valve and the people they banned to duke that out in court ... if it ever goes to court (in which case the decision would have far reaching consequences for the industry).

Anyway, the Steam ban is discussed by armchair lawyers all over the internet already, so please don't move this discussion into the same direction, if you want to discuss Steam, you can do so on the Valve's forums, Slashdot or maybe in our offtopic forum.

To relate the thread back to our modules - what would happen if we found a certain CDKey is used by a lot of people to play our modules?

You are required to keep your CDKey secure. If it gets stolen, your premium modules are stolen as well and you will be unable to play the modules if someone else is playing them at the same time using your cdkey. Ultimately, if we detect a large number of people trying to use the same CDKey at once we may invalidate it on the master server to prevent thieves from using it to play DD modules they didn't purchase. You would then have to contact support to find out if something can be done for you (presenting proper proof or purchase, etc). I guess this stuff would be investigated on a case by case basis.

And what happens if neither of those things happen, and BioWare continues on its merry way, supplying DD content the way we're doing it now? I guess we'll have to see, won't we? :D I got more than enough sunshine and light to counterbalance doom and gloom!
