Here are today's Neverwinter Nights forum highlights, collected by NWVault. Please take into account that these are only single parts of various threads and should not be taken out of context. Bear in mind also that the posts presented here are copied as-is, and that any bad spelling and grammar does not get corrected on our end.

    1.65 status?

Quick question: will there be any new scripting functions in the 1.65? I am (of course) thinking specificially of GetSkyBox and GetFogColor.
No. As I have said before, this is an update to resolve primarily the functionality of the Mac and Linux versions with the Premium Neverwinter Nights Modules, but it also includes the Stormy skybox, as well as other code fixes that have been done in the last few months since 1.64. We will have more details when we get closer to 1.65 Beta 1, hopefully, sometime next week.

    Authentication offline possible ?

I have the same grievances. I just bought the new modules, entered my original CD-key, yet cannot play them. I download my patches and such on an older computer then transfer them to my game computer (manual updates & no internet). So, I guess I cannot play these. That's just lame.
It's not that there aren't like 3 or 4 warnings all over the process of buying a module, in the FAQ on top of this forum or in the store help, regarding the fact that you need the internet connection to play it...

The habit not reading the system requirements (which you are, by the way, prominently prompted to do in a message that comes up during the buy process) can become quite expensive with other stuff like full games...

Whatever happened to, "The customer is always right?"
The "always" got cut. The customer is right when he/she reads and understands the contract he/she agrees to and has a valid complaint. The customer is wrong when he doesn't read the contract and/or doesn't ask for clarification when he/she is unsure about things and complains about it later.

I know someone will surely jump the bandwagon and preach about that I should not say something as customer service rep ... but that's the beauty of the thing, I'm not a CSR, I'm just a designer speaking his mind, so I don't care if I violate the golden rule of "always slime up to the customer". If the customer is wrong, it is better for him to understand it rather than getting told nice words about just how sorry you are that you can't help him. If anything, the customer has a right to be treated truthfully and with respect. Anyway, if you haven't played the module so far (and our master server would know whether or not you did), you can contact support to see whether or not you are eligible for a refund.

    Intrusive authentication

This was not stated when I bought the game.

    Wrong.

    Store FAQ:

    Internet Connection

An Internet connection for premium Neverwinter Nights modules is needed when starting a new game or when loading a saved game. This is because Neverwinter Nights needs to authenticate with our servers to verify that you have purchased the module. If Neverwinter Nights cannot communicate with our server when starting a new game or loading a saved game, you will not be able to play the module.

The Store FAQ has information on proper router settings to allow a module purchased at the BioWare Online Store to have Internet access, and 3rd party software firewall configuration settings.
    Forum FAQ:

    What does Live Connection mean?
You will be required to have a connection to the Internet upon starting a new or loading a save game from one of the Premium Content Modules. You will be able to disconnect from the Internet after the module starts.

    More:
I guess you read everthing before you buy it (read the small print)?
You should. Otherwise you have no right to complain. Anyway, the FAQ is not small print at all and the authentification scheme has been advertised in several places and been openly discussed for several days before the store even launched.

Success of premium modules vs. acceptance of copy protection method

This copy protection method really sucks and is lame. Its like Leasing the mods instead of buying them. I paid good money for these mods and i have to be online to use them? I need PERMISSION? .
It's not that we didn't tell you that before you bought the modules, right? If you find this method so offensive, you really should ask yourself why complain about this after having bought the modules. We have been very clear about the copy protection used in this modules from the start - if you don't like it, then don't get the modules, because the copy protection is a part of the deal that allows us to sell these modules online at that price - if you don't like the deal, there is nothing in the world that forces you to make it. But making it and complaining afterwards is not credible.

    Stupid question about 2da files
Use a program like NWNExplorer to extract them.

    More:
    Two more questions then:

#1: Once I've edited a 2da file, how do I get it into my module?
Add it into a hakpack, and attach it to the module in the toolset.

#2: Since the parts_chest file uses floating data type for the armor class (0.00 instead of 0), is it possible to set a piece of armor to, say, 4.10 and then have the armor.2da file set up to see not only 4 but also 4.1, and in that way make different settings for that particular piece of chest?
2da entries are read strictly in integer increments. Even if you named a line 4.1, as far as the engine is concerned, it is the fifth line and therefore the number is 5.
