how is the 1.66 patch coming along?
We are in the process of putting together the 1.66 beta 2 patch would should be out soonish (is that vague enough?). When will the 1.66 final patch be released? When its done. :) It all depends on what issues are found with the 1.66 beta 2 patch.

Gamespy games greyed out with router
If you don't have HotU installed, then the most likely reason that you are seeing servers greyed out is that those servers require you to have HotU installed in order to play on them. You can verify this by viewing the server details on one of the greyed out servers and look at the "server version" field. It should indicate which expansion packs are required to play.

    More:
Thanks for the response, Craig! I suppose it is possible that I'm just that far behind with 1.62 and no HOU, but it was not 90% or even 99% of servers, it was EVERY server in EVERY room I checked. Unfortunately, I'm not at home, so I can't check this out for sure. But I'll take a look at it hopefully this evening.

I guess maybe I should also go ahead and update to 1.65. Thanks again for the response!
The left side bar on this page indicates that currently 95% of the people playing NWN are using HotU (and thus most of the servers use it too). Once you combine that with the fact that you are running version 1.62, which even less people are running at the moment, its quite likely that there may not be any compatible servers for you to connect to. Patching to version 1.65 should make a few servers become available for you to play on (those 5% that aren't using HotU at the moment). If there is an incompatibility between your game version/installation and the greyed out server, it should show up in red text on the server details page. If you view server details and then keep clicking the "Next Server" button you should be able to quickly get an idea whether or not the game version difference is also causing the servers to be greyed out for you (I suspect that is the case).

Cannot connect to LAN game (sever timeout error, but no cause for timeout)

My problem turned out to be a version problem. Once we both patched, it was solved. Now I'm just sad it told me it was a timeout issue when it was really a version issue that could be fixed as soon as it was identified.
In one of the updates to NWN the network protocol of the game was changed significantly. This change had the unfortunate side effect that very old versions of the game can no longer communicate properly with the newest versions of the game (causing the timeout issue you were encountering). If the client and server are both running versions of the game that are close to each other but different (except around the time the that particular network change was made), you should still receive the proper game version mismatch message. Since you need to have the same game version installed on all PCs trying to play in multiplayer, you should always update all the PCs to the latest version when ever possible, which should help to avoid this problem.

    Ranger Weapons

Does any1 hav any suggestions on wot to use for my ranger? I wanna dual wield 2 swords but i am unsure wot kind to use, ive been using long swords but they seem to miss quite a bit. Would shorter swords be better for him?
You incur additional penalties if you don't wield a weapon at least one size smaller than you in your off-hand. For humans, elves, dwarves, half-elves, and half-orcs this means wielding a "small" weapon in the off-hand (ie. a shortsword). For gnomes or halflings, you'd need a "tiny" weapon (ie. a kukri). Changing that will help reduce the penalties you take for dual wielding.
