My last thought on the topic: is the module file format itself protected? If not, couldn't somebody develop their own editor and start selling modules? Is it just the Aurora toolset itself that is protected, and/or perhaps some of the code that the toolset embeds into the modules. But if you wrote your own tools from scratch, and any code that got embedded into the modules was 100% your own code, how could they stop you from distributing it? It may be that for modules to be valid they have to include an identifier which is protected IP. I wonder if BioWare was prescient enough to do that. BioWare? (Don't worry, I'm not personally going to write my own toolset...)
This I can answer. Anyone can write their own tools or editors, but when a module is used with NWN, it magically becomes an NWN "derivative work", subject to the NWN EULA.
