Here's the warning posted by BioWare's Georg Zoeller in BioWare forums.

It has been brought to our attention that there are currently emails sent out by a malicious person trying to scam community members out of their CDKey and account data.

The scammer is trying to optain CDKeys by impersonating BioWare employees and pretending to collect users interested in a private Beta Test for an upcoming BioWare product.

    • BioWare does NEVER ask for your CDKey, neither by mail nor Private Message. If you receive a request for your CDKey via private message, please contact any BioWare employee or moderator, if you receive one per mail, please do not answer to it and inform us about this so we can look into it.
    • BioWare does not work on a sequel or expansion pack to NWN at this time and there is no Beta test for those. NWN2 is developed by our partners at Obsidian Entertainment and they will never ask for and never need your NWN CDKey or BioWare account data.
    • If you receive mail seemingly coming from BioWare or BioWare employees and did not expect any, delete it, especially if it has an attachment (this includes .zip and .jpeg) files.
    RULE OF THUMB

NEVER disclose your CDKey and BioWare account data to anyone! If you are asked to provide it by mail, contact BioWare. If you receive a mail asking you to enter it at a webpage, please ignore it and inform BioWare

Your CDKey and Account is your key to NWN online play and losing it to a scammer means that you will no longer be able to play NWN online with it!

    regards

If people would read the documentation coming with their games, these scams wouldn't work.
