Yep - it's that time again!

    www.nanowrimo.org

While I myself will probably not be participating this year (well - I might decide to make a sprint in the last 6 days of November, which is really the only time I have free that month), I still feel the urge to bring it to the attention of you lot :)

So - who's NaNoing this year?

Well, I'd say Ara's probably out, being on vacation in the UK and all. And I kind of doubt she has a laptop to write on. ;)

Hmmh, I might be interested. Last time this was, I was not, but now I could very well be, seeing I've found writing quite enjoyable.
Well, I'm going to give myself some time to think, but maybe I will be motivated...

After checking the link provided, it looks okay. Just a question: do I have to associate with people once I sign up? As in, are there story-swapping/critiquing sessions that I'd be asked to participate in. I don't want to be part of something akin to high school English class.

Nope - you can be a total NaNo hermit if you like - there's no compulsion to share at all.

Hmm, as a new Creative Writing student, I guess I should give it a go...

    Dammit, I've barely got the time...*Well, that's a lie, I'm only on 8 hours a week...*

I still haven't finished mine from two years ago, Rally :p

I might attempt it again, but I'm not sure yet.

I'm in the same boat as Rally and The Kilted One...

Too much RL getting in the way, I think, which also explains why my IWD2 story has stalled.

Heh, I didn't even know this thing existed!

I'll have to see how life is going and how busy I'll be closer to November, but I'm tempted to give it a shot.

Currently thinking of basing mine in the 16th or 17th century. Haven't quite decided if I'm going to go with some twisted history or not, yet. Going to try and form it around the song Conquistador, by Procol Harum.

    Conquistador your stallion stands
    In need of company
And like some angels haloed brow
    You reek of purity
    I see your armour-plated breast
Has long since lost its sheen
And in your death mask face
There are no signs which can be seen

And though I hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind

    Conquistador a vulture sits
    Upon your silver shield
And in your rusty scabbard now
    The sand has taken seed
    And though your jewel-encrusted blade
    Has not been plundered still
The sea has washed across your face
    And taken of its fill

And though I hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind

    Conquistador there is no time
    I must pay my respect
And though I came to jeer at you
    I leave now with regret
And as the gloom begins to fall
I see there is no, only all
And though you came with sword held high
You did not conquer, only die

And though I hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind

Going to be mainly set in Europe. Trying to focus on the religous conflicts during those times. Prehaps the Anglo-Spanish wars or the Eighty Years War.

Anyone else getting last minute nerves? I'm not sure I can pull 50,000 words from my plot...

    Daie = :deadhorse: :p

    I mean:

    - How do I submit my story when it's done?
    - What are the limitations, if any, on 'adult content'?
    - Are fanfics okay?
    - Will I become a desolate shell on the first criticism (if any)?
    - What format is okay? Word? DOS? Hieroglyphics?

    @kuemper:

    - There are instructions on the NaNo site. You e-mail it to a particular address, IIRC.
    - None.
    - Yes.
    - That's up to you
    - Any, although an electronic format makes verifying word-count much easier.
