OK, I just got hold of a computer and decided to make a run through as a religious nut. I have one of each Pally kit, a cleric mage, a monk, and an archer (Rangers access their spells from the clerical list, ergo some must be religious -- according to 2ed PnP Faith and Avatars, this works)

So far it's going well, though I find traps, but can't disarm the damn things! And, I can't pick any locks, which means either my Archer has to bash it open, or my mage has to Knock it open.

    Thoughts?

I would consider tossing in some kind of Thief combo in there. With 3 paladins, AND an archer, later on I think you'll find you're a bit too overpowered. I would consider ditching the Archer in favor of a neutral good halfling or dwarf theif, perhaps a swashbuckler. Focus all his points in utility skills (find traps, pick locks, see illusions) and do what you will with the rest. Avoid pick-pocketing, and stealth won't be all that important because you won't be backstabbing anybody anyway. Have him specialize in Short Bows and whatever else you like. It's perfectly reasonable, from a roleplaying perspective, that a religious group would employ the talents of a very skilled rogue to break into crypts, tombs, dungeons, castles, etc. to combat the evil within at the source.

All others sound extremely fun, and I think I may copy your idea.

Wow! A paladin of every kit. Is there that much evil to smite? Is there enough evil to go around? Sounds like a cool idea all-in-all.

One slight correction - rangers get their spells from the druids spell list - which does overlap with clerics, but there are some druid-specific and cleric-specific spells.

Nice theme. I'm not sure that a monk is such a good fit - they're not like European monks, they're more 'Kung Fu' than 'Brother Cadfael'. A priest of Lathander would fit better than your cleric-mage as well.

How's about a representative of all the various faiths:
Inquisitor, monk, priests of Lathander, Helm and Talos and a Totemic or Avenger Druid.

I should mention that one of my premises is that everyone is LG, which sadly precludes any thief of any stripe. I see the monk as a member of a Faerunian sect allied with a LG faith, not as an eastern one (though you are right, as it is designed it certainly has a Kara-Tur flavor.)

I realize that they are overpowered in a sense, but my role playing theory is that Paladins would stick together with people of a like mind. I HAD to have the cleric mage -- it's bad enough going without rogue skills, but going without arcane magic as well would possibly kill me.

And my bad on the Ranger business -- I knew that already about their spells, I guess I was just pointing out that they have a religious link, though not as strong as that of a Paladin.

dude I think its imperative to have a thief! You can make your thief Chaotic Good, and he'll fit right in.

Chaotic Good seems to be emotional driven, so if anything, he/she can be a major sparkplug for your LG party.

Kind of in the way how Minsc is a self starter (and a very successful one at that).

Folk of all 3 good alignements get along, so it might be good to add some flavor and get a CG thief in your party.

You don't need a thief, although it is nice to have one around.

I'd drop the ranger, because he doesn't believe in anything. You could make a cleric/ranger though.

    As regard to the alignments:
I never really understood the lawful (good) alignment. I mean: isn't it illegal to kill people? (even if they're evil)

Good point on the alignment question. I was actually thinking of starting a new topic on this, but then I came across this somewhat recent thread. Might be worth resurrecting it if we have any other comments or thoughts (although it is pretty long and in-depth).

Right. Sure. So if the Ranger doesn't believe in anything, where do you think he gets his spells from? Hmm?

I don't think Lawful Good means that you would obey a law that commands you to do something evil, or that forbad you to do something good. Likewise, I don't think evil means that you have to be homicidal or even criminal. Chaotics don't have to be manic lunatics. Etc.

No need for a Thief. You've a cleric for "Find Traps", if you realy need it. And anyway, Paladins don't need to sneak about. They march into battle bravely! ;)

Hmm... so what class would Brother Cadfael be then? Cleric?
