Which NPCs best fit into an evil party? The NPCs themselves don't have to be evil but should fit into the whole ethos of the party. If you keep your reputation in the middle you can keep good characters in your party, but this just doesn't seem right E.g. Jaheira is a TN Druid, so could fit into an evil party, but she is a Harper and fights for good, so she wouldn't really.

Here are my thoughts on all the suitable NPCs...

    Fighters Kagain (LE)
    Sharteel (CE)
    Priests Viconia (NE)
    Faldorn (TN)
    Mages Edwin (LE)
    Xzar (CE)
    Thieves Montaron (NE)
    Safana (CN)
    Skie (TN)
    Bards Eldoth (NE)
    Garrick (CN)

A suitable party might be ...

    PC - Fighter or Fighter/Cleric
    Kagain - Fighter
    Viconia - Cleric
    Skie - Thief
    Eldoth - Bard
    Edwin - Mage

    ... or ...

    PC - Thief or Mage/Thief
    Kagain - Fighter
    Sharteel - Fighter
    Viconia - Cleric
    Faldorn - Druid
    Edwin - Mage

I have played through with evil as well, and I completely agree with Takara on the choices. With those 5 NPCs, your PC could literally be ANYTHING. Just play whatever class you like best. As a bard lover that I know you are, this class would fit particularly well. Edwin lacks the ability to cast identify, and having Montoron as your thief will limit his skill points, so having a capable pick pocket character will be a huge help, considering that is a skill that Montoron simply won't be able to develop.

You forgot Tiax in your original list. He would NOT be happy about that! :flaming:

And I agree with Takara and Aldeth. That party, with a bard PC, will rock the party that rocks the body.

I'm sure Tiax will be ruling over the party... from a distance. Dispersed social control and all that.

    (Yes, I know... :yot: )

Even without the egomaniacal Gnome, that party of Takara's should be damn solid and doesn't need the PC to fill any particular niche.

My thoughts are that we play evil to role-play a bit more and to have some fun, but all we ever do is take the usual characters. There are a lot of other characters that fit into an evil party really well, but aren't evil as such.

@Takara: that is a good solid party, but my personal thoughts on it, but not from a powergaming perspective ...

Kagain - I take if I need a tank, other than myself.

Sharteel - I sometimes take depending on party composition. She is also good to dual-class into a thief.

Montaron - I rarely take as I find his dialog just irritating after a while.

Viconia - I always take with me. I really like her and she is a great cleric.

Edwin - I rarely take with me, because I don't like him as an NPC. I much prefer taking Xzar, Xan or Eldoth (if I'm a mage).

There are some great banters between the evil chars and this is sometimes worth considering ...

    1. Eldoth, Garrick & Skie - Love triangle
    2. Viconia, Kivan & Xan - She loves to belittle elven men
    3. Faldorn & Jaheira - Druids hate each other

My best party ever was ...

Me - Mage/Thief (NE) -> Archer, Sneaking, Offense
Kagain - Fighter (LE) -> Tank
Sharteel - Fighter (CE) -> Tank, Archer
Viconia - Cleric (NE) -> Healing, Defense
Faldorn - Druid (TN) -> Healing, Summoning
Garrick - Bard (CN) -> Archer, Summoning
*Safana - Thief (CN) -> with me a longtime until my skills were good enough and swapped her for Faldorn

This was great fun, some good banters and surprisingly powerful.

The reason I kept monty, was due to him being a Zent. As a thief he's a tad crap, and he's not much of a tank, because anything heavier than studded leather, and his thief skills are useless. All in all, only worth taking for RP value. If you do want a thief, a pure thief like safana, or skie is a better choice. Or you could class as a thief, and choose a much more interesting NPC.

I have used Monty before, but more as a sneaky backstabber. He was excellent in this role. Good str, dex and thac0, meant he was more than able to handle himself. He is useful because you can get him so early (same as Safana), so you can assign his thief skills where you want. I just don't like his personality.

You've found probably the only combination of characters I've NEVER tried! I know I've never included both bards in the same party. This is probably because, when it comes to the bards, Eldoth beats the pants off Garrick.

I only had them for a little while, but found the party a bit weak, so I got rid of Garrick.

Garrick's only real use is as blade fodder when killing drizzt in my opinion. Anyway, I think I should point out that you all forgot Branwen who will stomach an evil party and makes a strong cleric addition. Can be got quite early on as well which is a bonus :)
