    If you believe the following legend: Imoen and Shar-Teel are the only two dual-classable NPCs you can't be more wrong. In fact if you forget your devouring greed and are willing to give some of the Tomes to the right NPC the number of dual-classables skyrockets. Here are the lucky recipients:

    Branwen (Human Cleric, WIS 16, DEX 16) + Tome of DEX => Cleric/Thief
    Dynaheir (Human Invoker, INT 17, WIS 15) + 2 Tome of WIS => Diviner/Cleric
    Safana (Human Thief, DEX 17, INT 16) + Tome of INT => Thief/Mage
    Xzar (Human Necromancer, INT 16, DEX 16) + Tome of DEX => Necromancer/Thief
    Xzar (Human Necromancer, INT 16, WIS 16) + Tome of WIS => Necromancer/Cleric

    As you see Xzar is the champion as he has two options. No wonder those Harpers want him dead.

    I once played a game called the unlikely party composed of all the above except Imoen. Branwen - Cleric/Thief and Xzar - Necromancer/Thief being mutually exclusive as there is only one tome of DEX, I settled on the Necromancer/Cleric version of Xzar.

    I did some research on this subject and found no mention anywhere about those dual-classabilities. In fact Shar-Teel is hardly mentionned at all. Probably because she's evil. This proves only two things the average BG player is greedy as hell and he is a dogooder (to nurture his greed). Joke aside, some of those dual-classing could be viable in a serious game. The Safana lovers among you will probably be happy to dual-class her to a mage. Is this the end of Imoen's reign?

    Besides you have probably spent countless hours to re-roll your stats into near godhood, if you have some left-over tomes that doesn't profit your PC why not give it to someone who really needs it. Why not give all three of the tomes of WIS to Viconia so that she becomes a super cleric? Why not give the tome of CHAR to Safana or Coran so that they can reach 20 CHAR with items only?

    There are two other NPCs that could dual-class like this but I'll let you find out who they are...

    Wow, I've never thought of this. Actually, I do sometimes give some tomes to characters who will benefit from them. Like you said, any cleric or druid will get additional spell slots if you give them the tomes of wisdom, and mages will get to place more spells in their spellbook with increased intelligence. However, I never considered how others could dual-class if they had just an extra point or two. Now of course, I'm going to have to go back and look through to find out who else can dual class. Off the top of my head, knowing that the base rules are 1.) human 2.) 15 or greater in prime requisite of original class and 3.) 17 or greater in prime requisite of 2nd class...

    Edwin must be one of them. I don't remember his exact wisdom score, but it is pretty high iirc. I bet with a tome of wisdom or two he could dual class.

    For the other one, I'm really not sure. Minsc doesn't work. Garrick, Eldoth and Ajantis are non-dual classable based on them being bards and a paladin, so regardless of their other stats, dual-classing isn't an option.

    I don't think that Skie has the ability points to dual class. The only other human I can think of is Faldorn, and I certainly don't think she has the points for it. So, I'm stumped on the last one.

    Actally, Edwin has a measly 9 Wisdom, so dual-classing to cleric is impossible even with three tomes. He also has no other stats that could be raised with tomes to give him sufficient abilities for any other class. I have no idea who the others could be, though.

    Imoen, Shar-Teel, Branwen, Dynaheir, Safana and Xzar... Besides those five, can any actually dual-class?

    Phase Demon got them all already. Just the six shaman lists are capable of being dualed. As Aldeth so astutely noted Garrick, Eldoth, and Adjantis can't dual; Edwin, Faldorn, and Skie don't have the stats for it (edit: oops, forgot about loopy himself, Minsc) -- everyone else is a demihuman, except CHARNAME of course.

    Another interesting point is Shar-Teel is the only NPC capable of getting five stars in a weapon, without cheating -- and only if she duals to thief (you also have to pick her up before she gets third level). Two stars at the beginning, a third at 3rd level fighter, a fourth at either 4th thief or 6th fighter, and the fifth at 8th thief. Kagain and Khalid only get two more stars each (3rd and 6th) for a max of four.

    Shar-Teel, 7th Fighter/8th Thief with five stars in longsword, backstabs -- ouch.

    Edwin

    STR 11, DEX 13, CON 16, INT 17, WIS 15, CHA 12

    Cleric. with two tomes.

    I havo NO Idea about the second if there is only one tome of Int.
    I think, Phase Deamon, at least you could refresh our Memories about how many tomes of which sort there are. Or simply tell us who you had in mind.

    I won't let you languish any longer. The remaining two NPCs can be found right at the beginning in Candlekeep, in a place where monsters can't hurt you. I mean the training hall. They are none other than Mademoiselle Mordaine and Mr. Canderous.

    Mordaine (Human Invoker, INT 18, WIS 15) + 2 Tome of WIS => Invoker/cleric
    Canderous (Human Cleric, WIS 18, STR 16) + 1 Tome of STR => Cleric/Fighter

    Yes Boo, I agree, bringing the Tomes to them would be cheating! So we have to bring them to the Tomes. There exists a method to bring them out of the training hall, that can be considered an exploit. I'll quote that method right from the source - Dan Simpson's authoritative faq:

    <Quote>
    Rolf Zehb found a way to keep these NPC's:

    So I discovered, that those 5 npc in candlekeep (which are found together
    with "obe") could be taken outside of candlekeep without cheating. How
    to get them:

    - have your training solved and before talking to obe the last time
    dismiss all of the npc in your group. while doing so stand near obe,
    so that you can talk to him. have the npc dismissed in a way, that
    they stand near you either.
    - then talk to the npc and if they want to join you answer "no".
    - now talk to obe and just before he teleports you outside - pause the
    game! (bit tricky but possible)
    - then (while the game is paused) talk to any npc.
    - then unpause.

    Sometimes when you are already teleported outside, a dialog-box appears
    and the npc ask you to join you! If all goes right you have one npc
    still near obe! Let this one talk to all the remaining npc. Switch back
    to your main character and have him go instantly to gorion. Talk to him
    and leave candlekeep. The automatic scene with sarevok starts. If
    finished all the npc are still with you!

    Some of them are very interesting (one having the identification spell
    ready), one having lay-on-hands as special ability, one having
    invisibility and one having slow poision. The dwarven fighter has a
    CON of 19 an he has even higher hitpoints than possible with a score of
    19. The thief has extraordinary thiefish abilities! The only lack is
    that none has a biography - but hey...
    </Quote>

    They also lack a decent soundset. That could probably be remedied with a little fiddling with sound files.

    As for the availability of Tomes there's one of each except the Tome of WIS of which there are 3.

    Ok.
    Allright.
    I´m surprised.
    At least there is now a sense in doing Tutorials and such.
    I think I have to do it NOW to check those npcs out. Never realized I missed so much.

    And for Edwin´s Stats - They are from the npc guide here in SP, If they are right the Cleric dualclassing should work.

    Unfortunately the NPC guide is wrong. Edwin is intelligent yes but almost unwise as Minsc. His WIS is just 9. Which is fitting for him.

    I didn't even think of those guys... I've only been in there once and never wanted to take them out (I like dialogue in NPC's).

    Edwin (Conjurer):
    STR:9 DEX:10 CON:16 INT:18 WIS:9 CHA:10

    Conjurer and Invoker requires high CON.
    Abjurer, Diviner, Necromancer requires high WIS.
    Illusionist, Transmuter requires high DEX.
    Enchanter requires high CHA.

    Edwin's stats in the NPC guide are a duplication of Dynaheir's Stats. That's why Tillix thought he might be able to become a cleric. Now, why would Edwin try to imitate Dynaheir if he hates her?

    I fixed Edwin's stats, he had the same listed as Dynaheir (an old copy/paste error apparently). If someone had bothered to report it, it'd have been fixed a long time ago. :rolleyes:

    speaking of the tomes and manuals but a kind of off topic. Something to note about the NPC's from BG1 that you can have in BG2.

    Minsc in BG2 is as if you use the Dex and Con Tomes on him.
    Jaheira made an impossible jump of 3 Dex Tomes.
    Viconica gets the 3 Wisdom Tomes.
    Edwin gets a Strength and a Wisdom.

    Imoen is the only one that doesn't get an increase or even any other kind of change in her stats from BG1 to BG2.

    And clearly some of the PC's are finding stuff and being thieves by keeping them from you.

    Starwalker: I think they boosted those BG2 NPCs to keep them on par with the other BG2 NPCs. Minsc and Jaheira's original stats don't compare with the new NPCs out there.
