...And to any monster that THINKS he's tough.

(This post isn't a BRAG, no no, it's just "sharing". You know like on OPRAH or SPRINGER...so you too can get that 'warm fuzzy feeling')

I found myself in the WINDSPEAR HILLS Dungeon (second time through BG2) and decided to have my MONK face off with FirKraag the 'Red Breath of Death'... all by himself.

He gulped down a Fire Giant Strength potion, and a Mind focusing potion then 'Drew Upon Holy Might'. He went into stealth mode w/cloak of non detection. And moved closer to his victim, the Evil FirKraag. He paused and focused his Ki power for the ancient and legendary 'Quivering Palm' attack.

ONE BLOW! And he FELL THE GREAT DRAGON.

    DAAAAAAMMMMMN! DA-DAMN-DAMN!!!

We'll I had to pause the game, put the game in windowed mode, screen captured the window/saved to wordpad file and had to email it to 7 RPGer's here in Southern Cal!

-of course anyone who wants the screen capture can have it.

E-mail it to me as I'm just finishing this up for this week on the BG2 Solution. I'd like to add this shot and your detailed description of how you felled this foul beast using all but your characters abilities. Thanks ;)

Iron Eagle, let me educate you for a moment. I for one have NEVER used a cheat code/Editor, so dont even imply it. You should read up on the Quivering palm attack before assuming such things. It kills ANY opponent with.... yep, with ONE Blow if the creature does not save.

I have used patches... fixes for things that the game designers overlooked. For instance, I used the 'Specialization' patch that correctly deals with weapon proficiency.

My last time through I used a patch to remove the X-Cap (when I had already reached level 19). -But that game was already 'in the bag' and a 'done deal' so I had no problem with that. Actually only my Figher reached a level above the game limits, the other party members were well under their MAX level set by the BG2 game.

Dont assume anything about another board member or fellow RPG'er... just ASK! Such as "How can you kill a Dragon with one blow?..." And let them explain and educate you.

Well... I wouldn't say that the new specialization tables are something the devlopers "overlooked" since they are documented in the manual; they simply decided to change the way specialization works. I agree that it is far less advantageous to get 4&5 proficiencies in a weapon now; I didn't pay that much attention to speed factors anyway... But I agree with your post; I was waiting with anticipation for your rebuttal!

I Didn't have the need to go 'overboard' so I tried to place things a 'simplistic' way so that Iron Eagle could comprehend. Clearly.

I never did get a copy of the true AD&D 3rd edition rules however when reading up on BGCHRONICLES website (It's one of the main sources for Interplay/Bioware RPG support of course), they indicated that the weapon specialization was 'incorrect' in BG2. And thus they posted a PATCH for this. - which thrilled me because my first time through BG2 I had a total 4pts in Scimitars for my Fighter upon Import/Creation! Otherwise all would agree that 3-5pts in a Weapon Proficiency slot would be miniscule to say the least.

And my gaming style for fighters actually 'concentrates' on Speed Factors and the like due to the theory "He who hits first, accurately, with damage and # of hit's" can win more battles than not. Which of course is a main ingredient to Weapon Specialization.

BTW I sent off my MONKS stats and the screenshot to Sylvus early this morning along with 'a little heroic story about the battle'. Of course I don't have ANY problem with ANYONE who wants my screen capture, my CHAR files or SAVED GAMES for that matter. I'm a true RPG'er and have been at it for a while! :) True just as Minsc is Minsc is Minsc!

[IMG] Draco, do send em over to me at sorcerer -AT- sorcerers.net as well. And those savegames and chr files!
As many as you have! :p
You're the only one who contributed your char to the IWD section so you might as well be the only one to do so with BG2. Consider it an honour! ;)

(Of course, this goes for anyone else too... If you have an English version of the game send over a savegame or .chr file of your main char along with a description and I'll post it on the site. Instant glory and something to brag with to your friends).

[IMG] Draco - I don't have a problem with anyone using a patch or editor to change the game to the way they want it, especially if it improves their enjoyment, but what's the difference between using a 3rd party editor to change the game from the way the designers intended it, and using a 3rd party "patch"?

[IMG] just a quick note, had a go with a Monk, but no-one can even keep up with the little scamp, let alone help with the battles - nice.
in my Pen & paper days, when i lived in the same county as my gaming buddies, the few times we played AD&D (we got a photocopied set of basic D&D rules sent from a relative in America - dont worry, we replaced it with paid for rules a couple of years later when we persuaded the local wargaming shop to get them for us!- much more roleplaying, much less of a chance for 'rulemiester' players to ruin a perfectly good storyline just to avoid capture) a lot of the subclasses were banned, the monk among them.
erm, sorry if i'm rambling: nostalgia + beer + late night = me talking rubbish!

I've played many games in my life, and i believe that sometimes the impossible is possible if u do it right. For a game like Baldurs Gate 2 let ur imagination fly and see what Amazing things u can perform.

Just sent the capture over Taluntain sorry about the delay but I was moving from 56k to ADSL. My ISP took a while to get the correct setup information to me. But now I'm up and running again!

I like the post that put it simply "If you want a character that is like a god and not cheat, play a MONK". My Monk is now approaching 17th lvl in the Asylum to Uderdark quests and is fearsome. The magic resistance alone is the most amazing benefit at these locations in BG2!

Patches?, well BGCHRONICLES (I believe from what I've read) works in tandem with Interplay/Bioware. If a 3rd party patch offers an 'earlier' fix that a true software vendor will eventually release in it's own '1.0 patch' or the like, I don't have any issues with it. Again, I do not have a true copy of AD&D 3rd edition rules so I cannot confirm what Weapon Specialization details actually exist.

From what I have gathered from boards such as this, the game BG2 has incorrect settings for Weapon Specialization and of course a few other things that we may (maybe...) see fixed in an Interplay/Bioware patch release soon. ALSO, I do not judge others who use Editors or Cheat codes - as long as they admit what they actually are doing. Editing an ability or adding magic items or teleporting or the like. I believe THOSE things alter the game and remove the true RPG factor associated with the game. Of course, these are just my thoughts 'nada more, nada less'.

Well, you'd be happy to know that I've added your Monk slaying abilities to the Windspear Hills part of the solution, which should be online tomorrow (Friday) so keep an eye out for it. Thanks again guys for all the info too about Firkraag (the other post)

Draco, that thing gets updated all the time... Just send in a sweetened version of your death match description if you want. Replacing it is no problem.

One of the best and overlooked weapons in the game? A high level (15+) Monk with the Gauntlets of Crushing! Those babies add a +4 bonus to his/her unarmed attack, cumulative with the character's class bonus, +3 fists and +4 gauntlets, Do the math!
